Hey guys,

I just bought a 1959 F100. It has a 302 in it and and auto trans. I'm really looking forward to working on it this weekend. It needs a lot of TLC and that is exactly what it will be getting from now on. I plan to try to get the headlights, signal lights, and speedometer working this weekend. I have ordered new weatherstripping for the doors, and all the windows. All of the glass was good except for passenger side glass and I have ordered a replacement glass. I also need to work on the brakes, as this beast does not like to stop. : ) I look forward to learning a lot from you guys that have been doing this a while. I also have really enjoyed reading past posts here on the site.

Welcome to the fridge orphanage! The truck looks solid. Put first things first! Get after those brakes right away and when you can upgrade to a dual master, possibly adding power.
Just my opinion, use you own judgment.

Welcome to the fridge club! I started my affair with old ford trucks 40 years ago this month. If you use the kind of good judgement that suggests a dual master cylinder, then maybe you'll be smart enough to finish this fridge truck and then return to your senses and go on to a cleaner or more profitable hobby like stamp collecting or ....oh never mind. But don't even think about ever starting a savings account, whatever that is......btw, wouldn't change a second of it

 

GB SISSON, I can aleady see that you are exactly on target on the savings account issue. The more I study this truck, the more I see that I need to do on it. I have already placed two orders with LMC Truck parts and I'm sure I will be placing another one next week. The way this is going I might should just take advantage of their free shipping deal on orders over $1,000.

Are there any other dealers for 1957-1960 F100 parts that you guys are aware of?

check out dennis carpenter for parts to. I have heard that they make a lot of the parts that everyone else sells. Or try napa for the more common stuff like brake parts and such. I would just rebuild all the wheel cylinders and the master cylinder, and put new brake pads on it and drive it for a while before getting into modifying a bunch of stuff.

Thanks for the lead on Denis Carpenter and also for your other suggestions. I requested a catalog from them. I don't know much about fixing up an antique truck, but I listen well and have a lot of friends that enjoy working on old vehicles.

 

I buy a lot of hard to find parts from Macs Auto. They have a ton of hard to find parts.

The power booster and dual master I used came from a 1973 F100. The truck is much better to drive when it stops good.

I'll bet it's a workout steering with that small wheel.
