If you think it's easier towing with an auto, then you've never towed with a manual.

I don't understand why Ford can't figure this out too.

Sure the newer trucks have lots more power, but there's still an advantage having a 3rd pedal.

Its SO hard not to blitz the loud pedal every time! I may have flipped over to Andrews tunes on my way home...man it smokes bad but when the turbo lights it is amazingly very clean running. I can't say enough good things...except my trans may not be very happy at almost 50lbs boost Lol

47 lbs is awesome Aaron! Especially with your egt's!

I'm not sure who you've been talking with Bill but there's at least half a dozen of us here that love our zf-5 swaps. If you're like Aaron and Glenn and like you're auto that's awesome, but I didn't like it and i haven't had a happier day in my truck than the first day I got to push that third pedal.

It is all good rick. A little friendly banter between friends is always fun. Really its just a matter of taste.

That was a "80hp" tune.I have not gotten the cahones to try the "100hp". I would not be surprised to see 50 honestly. Not sure how the ol slush box would take it tho lol

travis was spot on with suggesting the s468 . i love it!

and if you ever drove for a living you would understand automatic is the way to go. no trailer hitch slamming into the truck trying to lift the backend off the road because you have a heavy load on the trailer when you let off the throttle with an automatic.
no rolling backward down a steep grade while trying to take off from a light
trying to work both the brake and fuel pedals with your right foot timed to the clutch release.

yup, i will take an auto trans in my trucks over a hand shaker any day.

Mostly guys outside of the internet circle. Those that did it ended up not liking it and thought the effort was too much for too little reward is all. Perhaps they had way too high of expectations for what putting a manual behind this motor would do? I don't know.

Daily driving, I wouldn't mind having a manual again - all of my trucks up until an Explorer I bought right after my divorce were all manuals, in fact. But in this hilly country (mountains of western PA), I would prefer having an auto to tow with for some of the reasons Tom outlined.

I think it's interesting that those you talked to said it wasn't worth it. I toyed with the idea before getting my JW trans last fall. I'll never look back. I am so glad I didn't do it. E4OD all the way!!

Well I also drive in some hilly country, (the mountains of WV) I enjoy and trust my truck much much more since the ZF swap. Along with the other mids I have done, It does a fantastic job towing. Now I control my RPMs and when to shift gears. The E4OD had a mind of ita own. It Shifted whenever it chose to, not when I chose. And a big plus. It cost me less than $1500 to do the swap. Much less than a $4000 e40d rebuild. There again, I guess it comes back to personal preference.
