the official OBS diesel off topic thread
Just caulked the seals on the camper today. My list is pretty short: stock camper, check fluids and tire pressure, hit the road! Im gonna try to swap tires while im at it too. Put the Fierce Attitude piles of garbage on the OBS and put the BFG ATs on the X. Debating new tires on the camper since the current ones are bias plys...
So your bringing the X then?
Edit: If your unsure on the camper tires, I would just replace them, cheap insurance compared to the fieasco that will ensue if you blow one out.
I think Iv settled on the X. Itd just make more sense financially. Itll get double the fuel mileage over my OBS, especially at interstate speeds.
And yea, Id feel a lot better getting new tires for the camper. They might be the originals, which means 9 years old... eek! Judging by how good of shape its in, they might very well be too

third was not that bad, i was redlining second high, then flipping to 4th low, then 4th high.
7th was the pain because i can not split the gear on the high side of the trans.
i wish this truck had an 18 speed instead of the 8 speed.

My Jayco had the originals on it when I got it, they were pushing 30! lol, I had one disintegrate when I got to the camp ground, then I was running the spare. I knew I had to get them replaced before RRE, so I did! lol.
That sucks Tom, pry one of those things that you don't realize how much you depend on, untill you don't have it.

Seen a scan gauge lately?
30s pushing it lol. Its generally accepted that tires are garbage after 10 years, and that's only if kept indoors. 5 years if not. Judging by the exterior of mine, it hasn't been garaged its whole life. Besides, $100 is cheap insurance! Especially after seeing what a blowout will do on a 5er... Hate to see what it would do to fiberglass
Aaron, I haven't drove it long enough to let it get warm lol
And the scan gauge is doing great! A guy offered me 20 bucks for it so now I have 20 deer and dunno what to do with em
Ill try to get it in the mail sooner than later. Ill see how much UPS will rape me to ship it tonight

So I was servicing the church bus yesterday. When I went to change the coolant filter, I uncrewed it and it was completely dry. Not one drop of coolant in the filter. The was some paste like substance that was yellow in the bottom side of the fitting. I'm not sure what to think about it. Its a 1998 with the 466 engine. The driver said the engine always stayed cool, but if its not circulating properly the gauge won't read true. I told them we probably needed to pull the water pump and inspect/replace plus flush the whole system. A professional is coming to look at it on wednesday/thursday.
