Yessir. Im surprised I made it as trouble free as I did lol. But hey, no complaints! I ended up getting right around 14.5 mpg. No complaints there either! That's better than RRE and with twice the load! I just set the cruise at 65 and enjoyed the scenery. Took a bit longer than expected with the trailer issues but it ended up being a 24 hour trip: left at 4:45 and got home at 5. I consider it a successful trip

Gotta say, North Carolina is BEAUTIFUL!

On the way back, I hit a 6% grade for 6 miles... overdrive wouldn't carry it so I ended up hitting the OD, slowed to 45 mph and let er climb.

Then I ended up having tranny issues... I had the cruise set and it disengaged itself. I gave it some throttle and noticed my torque converter wasn't locking up. It was staying in OD but the TC wouldn't lock so I was spinning about 400 extra rpms. I told the gf to get ready to come get me, the trannys on its way out... After an hour or so driving it started working again. Woohoo! Then I noticed I didn't have any trailer lights. After pulling over a couple times trying to diagnose the issue with no success, I ended up turning on the running lights on the Roadrunner and came home. It was about 1am at this time anyways. Long story short, a taillight on the trailer shorted out and burned up. The melted wires were contacting each other shorting out the whole trailer electrical system and was kicking out my torque converter. Crazy!!!

And I hit a deer lol. It was 4am and I was half asleep and didn't see it til I was on top of it. Hit it in the azz, pulled over, no damage, hopped back in and came home. No idea what happened to the deer lol. It was 4am and I didn't care lol
I'd need a vacation after a trip like that, LOL. Glad everything ended up to be ok with your truck.

Nice car, btw!

Yes indeed it is. I was there a few years ago, we flat landers don't get to see that every day.

That trailer looked a little more aerodynamic than your camper, that makes a big difference too, that and trying to keep up with Todd's lead foot. lol

I think that was the big one lol. I had the pedal on the floor a few times on that trip! Lol

And I averaged around 14.5 mpgs. My best was mid 15s unloaded and worst was mid 13s on my last fill up coming home w/ the Roadrunner

Going to RRE my BEST was 13s!

Glad you made it JP!

Here's how I look at fuel mileage, especially on a trip. I'll use 700 miles as that's about how far it was round trip for me.

700miles/12mpg=58.3gallons burned*$4a gallon=$233.2
700miles/15mpg=46.7gallons burned*$4a gallon=$186.8
$232.2-$186.8=$45.4

That extra 45 bucks is well worth it! IMHO of course.

Sound logic you have!

Also, if you kept going at the speed you could calculate the time difference. That extra hour or whatever you'd have at the campgrounds!

That's how I always think about it. I value my time more than my money I guess. I'm always putting the pedal to the metal in my trucks.

People who know how I drive are surprised how good of fuel mileage I get, especially considering I have a leak.. I don't drive like an idiot, but I like to get up to speed in a hurry if you know what I mean.

I'm like you, Phil. I'm never wasting time, and I'm not afraid of the skinny pedal...but always in control. Getting used to the acceleration in my 7.3L though, it's a tad sluggish compared to my gassers.

Exactly!! I pull my train at 70 mph, get up to speed as fast as I can and a lot of people think I'm nuts!! My time is more important the have few $$!
