Doing the springs and push rods isn't a bad idea at all. Whether it is absolutely necessary or not, I don't know. Travis and talked briefly about this one day. The head studs I'd say are a must because of the boost levels you can hit. As far as the springs and push rods go, as long as you don't over rev the engine, you should be fine, but honestly if it were me, I would go ahead and do them. I guess I just assumed you were doing them since you were doing the head studs. Didn't think to ask

OK then, so tell me. Is there a reasonable way to do valve springs without removing the heads? Or am I going to have to buy head gaskets too?

You can do the springs with the heads on. I don't know the procedure but it is doable.

Nope, do the springs with the heads on. Be real easy to do while your engine is out too.

So you have to pressurize the cylinder with air to hold valves shut, or what?

Nope.just roll the engine over until each piston is up. The valve can't go anywhere then.

My old valve springs were iirc about 40lbs less seat pressure than the new ones. Some of that is the new ones are higher, and some is just age and use on the old ones. The pushrods at this age need to be upgraded too. One accidental high rev can bend a pushrod, seen it happen.

Have you gotten ahold of Tony for your tunes? You'll want to get them tweeked too for the turbo, and head studs. He wants to know if you have studs when you order from him, I suppose he "gets after it" a little more if you are built for it.

It'll end eventually, you just have to make it end!

Brian, I used a straw in the GP hole. Turn the motor over until the straw comes up to the highest point, then your good. I have some write up SOMEWHERE if you want me to dig for them.

No Glenn, That's ok... Sounds pretty simple.. I just remembered my dad, when I was pretty young, doing valve seals in a Dodge truck he had. He somehow hooked an air hose into the spark plug hole to hold the valves closed while he did this.

Looks like I won't have some of the problems they are, since the engine will be pulled out. Glenn, you did pushrods along with your springs right?
