It's so cold here that I had to go out and chip the dog loose off the tree he pees on! He was a real pup-sickle.

It's so cold here, I just passed a gas station and saw a squirrel buying kerosene.

I'm camped out in my easy chair, next to the nice warm radiator, doing things other than be anywhere cold. The work will keep til tomorrow, when it's to be a little warmer (albeit not much).

Yeah, same here. I've been outside some today, but I'm still on the fence about whether or not I'll attempt to go out to the shop and work on the truck any more.

ON an unrelated note, does anybody know who the OEM supplier is on the e-brake cables on our trucks? I'm thinking I may replace the rear two on mine while I have it apart this winter. Looking online, I am considering going with Wagner parts instead of spending twice as much for ones in a Motorcraft box. I'm wondering if Wagner might have been the OEM supplier anyway. If I can't get anything done outside, I may as well, get some parts rounded up and ordered...

I'm not sure who the OE is for e-brake cable. Wagner gets used a lot in a number of applications, so they could have well been the supplier. I don't think it'd be a bad choice in any case, not only for the cost savings but they seem to make good stuff.

I've got a list going of things I need to start gathering up. I want to get a dual stabilizer setup from BDS, along with the rest of the parts I need for my SD spring swap. I have most of it and need to paint a few things before I assemble it all. I might get that stuff you got to help prep the frame on the OBS, before I spray it with paint.

You talking about Ospho? I've heard enough guys recommend it that I'm thinking it might be worthwhile. One thing I'm wondering about is whether I should still plan on using a degreaser first. The back half of the frame is pretty clean, but there are a few places where I have gotten some fuel or penetrating oil on it. I'm thinking a good degreaser might be a good idea just so I give the paint every possible chance to grip. I'm actually thinking of using Marine Clean (from the folks that make POR15). It's not terribly expensive at around $25 a gallon and I'd imagine that gallon would go a long, long way since you can dilute it with water for application. I'd like to give it a shot anyway...

My biggest problem now is that it's too cold to do anything outside, especially if it involves water. Everything is frozen solid. At least I can spend this time researching and collecting materials.

Yeah, the Ospho. The frame on mine is in good shape overall, and I didn't see any grease or oil anywhere, at least the last time I looked.

If I want to work on the OBS, it has to be outside - and that's out of the question right now. I do have access to a shop to do the spring swap though, and will take advantage of that.

Yeah mine's not greasy, I just have a few places where I slopped some diesel on it while draining and removing the tanks, or I used some Kroil to lube up some bolts I was removing. I figure for the $25 I would spend, it would be worth it. Besides now that I've pulled the tanks I am seeing some places I could have gotten cleaner when I was washing.

I hear ya - every time you get a bit further into things, you find stuff you could do better. I know I'm like that with the 1/2 ton.

I'm sure you know exactly how that goes. You just have to pick a spot to QUIT. lol.

I don't need this truck to be show quality. I don't particularly want it to be, because I still intend to use it like it was meant to be used. I just want to do what I can to prevent it from deteriorating, and make it a good solid work truck. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I don't want to cheap out and find later that I was wasting my time either.
