the official OBS diesel off topic thread
Actually, the market is not that different. I see really nice trucks like that in the same price range, especially at dealers.
But your right. Keep a cool head, negotiate some, and if you can't agree, walk away. Its been up there for almost 2 weeks, you never know. They may be ready to move it.
lol DANG you are a post ***** today.
And just one more blip on the savings thing.
Don't ever use savings account. Index funds through a brokerage site that has the lowest fees (vanguard.com with .17%)
I don't like shoving unwanted info on people, but its really opened my eyes to what I can do with my life by changing what i do with money.
Currently my finances are setup where I can retire at 37(that means no debt student or home...and enuf to cover expenses off interest). Of course things like wife and kids will change that, but there may be an increase in household income with a wife too. And raises etc.
Anyway, I wouldn't be willing to pay even 12k for that truck. I think if I were to start again I would buy the best truck I could find that is CCLB 4x4 for around 5k and then spend the rest on making it new. I mean you can get a really clean bed for 1k.

A $5K CCLB will need body and mechanical work and have about 300,000 miles or more on it. You get that wife and kid and you won't have the time to repair/build a truck to that extent. That's why I'm willing to pay that price. You are right about it being cheaper to buy one that needs some work, I just don't have the time for that stuff anymore. Plus this one will be my DD, so I can't have it tore down in the shop all the time.
I do need to look into that brokerage stuff. I don't know squat about that stuff so feel free to keep teaching me Professor Alex!

There are 2 sides to this coin and I see both. I really don't think 12 would be bad if its as advertised, and rust free. I guess what it comes down to, how much is your time worth? If you have the ability, and the facilities to do body work, source the parts, do a full frame off resto, than that may be a good call to find a cheap truck and do it up.
I paid 6100 for white, but the biggest ding its got against it, is high miles (as evidenced by all the worn out parts I've been replacing). For another 6K, your getting a real clean low mileage rig that will last 20 more years or better.
Edit: It appears Phil and I are on the same page, you beat me to it. lol.

Pssssh you still got a youngster! No sport practices or any of that yet, so use your vacation time to have a staycation and get r done!
But don't listen to me on that. I can only guess what the time commitment is like.
As for the brokerage stuff. Simply go to Vanguard.com and sign up for a personal investor account. It literally takes 5-10 minutes.
You link it to a bank account so have a checkbook handy (or whatever to get acct info).
Once its setup you can have it automatically deduct $XXX from your bank every whenever and put it in there.
Or you can logon like any other online banking account and manually transfer money into it.
Invest in the VTSAX index fund. It is the total stock market fund. You are essentially investing in a piece of EVERY SINGLE MARKET.
That is how you have overall growth...
For example: when auto industry is down in the US... the auto industry is probably up in Germany. So by owning a piece of both... you will break even or make money.
