I had heard a little whimper out of one of mine on one or two occasions but aside from that all the steering and 4x4 worked just fine. I was surprised to find how bad the u-joints were. I'm glad to have that job done now.

Bummer man! I got those bushings in. Haven't tried putting them in yet. Hope your back up and running soon!

Yeah that was one job that reaped the most reward, I couldn't believe how much better the ride was with the new ball joints, and now the new spring bushings have made some difference too. It wasn't easy, but all worth it! Now I get to do pivot bushings. I have gotten to know the d50 quite well in the last week or two. Simple enough in principal but a pain to work on sometimes. Haha.

Yeah I can imagine. It just has too many moving parts IMO. D60 that thing and be done with it, lol.

Yeah I should have bought that D60 when I had the chance, I've pretty much rebuilt the D50, and after the pivot bushings thats pretty much it, I told myself it has to wear out again before I'll go to a D60, unless I find another one...lol

I'm at those crossroads now. I'm gonna try to make it last another year then I will either need to rebuild it or go to a D60.

A D60 sounds pretty good lol. My truck is well past it's prime and a front end rebuild will be in the works someday. I may buy a D60 so I can rebuild it while it's out of the truck

If I were to do that, I'd put the D60 on my 97, and the D50 from the 97 would go onto the 96. So that's a lot of work.

The only thing that concerns me about the 50 at the moment is it looks like the seeping is getting worse. And I don't want any part in pulling that all apart, at least not now, that may be next winters project.

My new purchase today. I needed to get a different around town vehicle. My festiva is just about done for. I decided to pay a little more for a decent one instead of buying a POS and having to work on it all the time. The front corner of the box on the pass side is broken, fiberglass. They slid in a ditch last winter and put a few scratches in it and broke that corner. You can kind of see it in this picture. 105k miles, 1999. 2wd, 5 speed, 4 cylinder. I checked mileage after I got home and it made exactly 30 doing 75 on interstate and 65 on side roads. AC works excellent too! I'm not a big fan of the topper, I may take it off this summer, but it may come in handy in the winter time.
