the official OBS diesel off topic thread
Thanks guys. We're pretty stoked, but I have to say that I'm about to lose my mind juggling all that we have going on right now. I need this holiday weekend that is coming up. Imma park my butt in a chair next to a fire and soak up the sunshine.
I just don't think it does me any good. It didn't seem to lower my EGTs any and I lost a couple PSI boost when I put it in. I keep thinking there must be a leak in there somewhere, but I can still make close to 20 PSI boost when I rail on it, so it can't be leaking much if at all. It just doesn't seem like I should be able to make 1100 degree EGTs with an Intercooler and stock injectors. Cruising temps at 65-70 are 700-800 degrees. It just doesn't seem right, somehow. Maybe the mill is just tired, but it sure runs good.

How high can you actually get the temps? 1100 doesn't surprise me. Where they help most is when you're really pushing it. I don't think you have any problems, just overthinking it. I do that too..
Wish I had the scratch sitting around. I would pick it up for the motor!
These are the guys in D that fixed my seat frame when the springs broke and then added foam to make the seat better than when it was new. (I had replaced the foam once with factory foam and what these guys did was heads and tails above that.)

Price was extremely reasonable. Website makes it look like more of a professional establishment than they are. When you go there, it's just a hole in the wall with a couple of guys working on stuff type of place.

Well driving home last night I hit a dip on the freeway. The kind that makes you bounce a little in the seat. The same one that was the final straw on my old seat. Anyway, went over the dip at 70mph (speed limit) and heard a pop and sank down in my seat. The stupid wire frame that holds the cushion had broke again.
Work was done on 6/30/14 with a 1 year warranty. New wire, extra foam, blah, blah, blah. Was nice and comfy till last night.
Went back to the shop today to see about maybe just buying the wire frame from them and doing the swap myself to save a little money, and since I was a little short on time.
The guy at the shop decided that if I'd give him an hour he'd replace it under warranty right then. He also added some reinforced fabric over the wire to give it more support. Wouldn't take any money and just apologized that it broke even though it was out of warranty.
I hear you Chris. I have had really good service and luck with the vendors on here and just the ones by word of mouth (John Wood, Joey at Terminator, Jim Rosewood, Clay at Riff Raff) just to name a few. When I put it like that, I see that there is definitely more good service than bad. Rock on! Glad to hear your experience was no different.
I was seeing about the same temps before the IC install. Maybe you guys are right and I'm just overthinking it. It's not going above 1200* but I don't think that would be hard with stage 1s. Maybe I'm wrong. Then again, maybe it's just a function of my motor showing its age. I'm positive that my low compression doesn't help me any. The turbo doesn't build boost like it should until I really wrap out the motor. I can make 16-18 PSI boost, but I have to be upwards of 3,000 RPM to do it. It's just not moving the air it needs to be to drive the turbo. It's probably just tired. It needs replaced or rebuilt, I know that, I just can't afford to do it right now so I'll just keep running it.
Today on the way to work at 5:15 I switched tanks and wasn't watching the FP gauge. Apparently the valve stuck in between tanks (I'd seen it do that before and flipped the switch again and it would free up the valve). Then it blew the fuse. I didn't notice it until about 10 minutes later when I looked up and the fuel pressure gauge was pegged (at 100 PSI). I think it's stuck between tanks and restricting the return. So now, I guess I'll be out there under the truck at lunch trying to get it to flip one way or the other so I don't burn up my fuel pump on the way home this afternoon. Not what I wanted right before we leave for camping this weekend...
I hear you there Nate.
The difference towing between Green Machine and Great White are night and day. And I know its not just the gearing. 3rd in GW and OD in GM are aprox the same RPM at 60MPH. Which you would think wouldnt make any difference. GW cant get out of its own way pulling the Mallard (only 22FT) while GM makes it look easy. I don't get it. I know for a fact my motor is tired in GW, with all the blowby I'm thinking its got bad rings. GM has minimal blowby with almost 25K more miles (Just flipped 403K)
Its all in the care I think. One owner who didn't give a rip in the lifetime of the truck could make all the difference.
Still, even with as good as GM runs, I think swaping that motor into GW would be stupid. It will get a nice low mileage motor put in when the time comes.

If you can swing it, Id look into rebuilding another motor. I know itll cost macho deneros but after your done, youll know you have a motor thatll last another 20 years and 400k mi. Plus you've got a spare truck to drive for now and you can take your time
