just slower than a volkswagen with 2 dead cylinders.
and the 350 gas conversion was the gm 5.7 diesel. the 6.2 was a diesel engine from the onset.

When I was a teenager my cousin had an early 80's cutlass supreme with a 350 diesel. It started easy and ran pretty well. Had a 110 mph top speed, and took a minute to get there, but it got 33mpg every tank. No matter how hard we drove it.
Not really the turd everyone always told him it would be.

I was in a bar last night and saw two girls of size (as Political Correctness now requires us to say) by the bar. They both spoke with a heavy brogue accent, and making assumptions about their origins I said, "Hello, are you two girls from Scotland?" One of them screamed, "It’s WALES you friggin idiot!"
So I immediately apologized and said, "Sorry, are you two whales from Scotland?".....and that's when the trouble started.

That's what I was thinking when I read that. Kind of sounds like a good idea if you're used to a solid truck that will last. I guess that's the first thing that runs across your mind if you're not worried about durability.
Unfortunately, that comment isn't just limited to the Chevy. I know a guy who traded in his 01 for a 12 model (was deleted and tuned before he drove it off the lot since he was a mechanic at the dealer). He told me he went through one of those automatic car washes in his new truck. When he got to the air dryer part, he said he could see the body sheet metal wave in under the blowers.
I told him not to worry too much. He had those HUGE plastic headlights to help deflect the wind away from his "truck" while he was driving down the highway.
The 6.5's were junk. Problems with the fuel injection pumps failing and GM trying to ignore the fact they had a problem. They had such a bad rep, that GM actually offered an owner loyalty discount if you traded in one of the early 6.5's on a newer one since they knew it was crap. Then they couldn't get the newer ones to perform any better and they just decided to drop the diesel engine from all their trucks until they could come up with a diesel that was complete crap (Isuzu).
I don't think abandoning the diesel platform in heavy duty pick ups says much for the quality of the 6.5.

I might catch some flack for this, but I was raised on the bowtie, just so happens I've owned more fords than anything else.
That being said, our largest customer owns a building that a large Chevy dealer has a body shop in. While watching and talking to the lead body man, he was free hand spraying door jams, which was amazing, on brand new cars. When I asked him why, he said Chevys fit and fish is so poor that when a customer simply closes the door, the paint chips and cracks. He told me if Chevy ever got their sh$@ together, he'd be out of a job.
