Breakdowns suck. I've been left on the side of the road before and yes, money isn't an object to some point. I've also been lucky (knock on wood) to the point that I've always been able to get myself to safety without being towed from the interstate. That's always expensive.

I guess I've been lucky. I have always gotten home. Then it breaks. When I was 16 I borrowed my dads truck (87bricknose4x4) to do some mild wheeling(innocent whistling here lol). I got home and took off in my car to a party. My dad had to go to work a few hours later and gets to his truck and has a flat tire. Turned out there was a 1" round stick through the sidewall. It held all the way home and just slowly leaked out. Oops. Sorry dad. Lol
I suspect that motor had other issues beyond the rear main, but I'll be damned if it didn't start one last time to get it moved to where the junkyard wrecker could get on it to haul it off for scrap.
I spent out the rear for A new caliper and pads and a big bottle of DOT4. Luckily I didn't need a new hose, but still spent almost 200$ for the whole venture. Towing was free because of my insurance, and barely made it to the parts store before it closed, and the manager there was nice enough to stay open a few minutes late for me while I got everything I needed.
Always having tools in whatever vehicle I'm driving is a must. Glad I didn't decide otherwise on that trip! Although, probably having a 4ton floor jack, jack stands, and all my tools and repair manual in the trunk probably helped slow me down That and all my vehicles are manuals, gotta love being able to engine brake in times of crisis!
I carry lots of parts and tools. I have a welder and air compressor in the front of the 5er and two bottle jacks, floor jack and tool box full. Three generators, ramps, etc. The thing is, you can't think of every thing! My big 20 ton bottle jack saved the day this summer. I have driven over this cattle guard for years but this time I cut the corner to sharp and dropped the wheels over the side. The whole camper was leaning, pretty scary! My wife insisted I call a tow truck but I wanted to at least try to get it out of there. I called a 'boom' truck and while he was on the way I was able to get a piece of the frame to jack under and between the campers front jacks and the bottle jack I got it up far enough to get railroad ties under the tires. Just as I was ready to try to move forward the boom truck showed up. I got his opinion if what I did would work and he thought so. It worked!
