Question! Why would you need the extra pressure? These motors are already tough as nails, and strong to boot. Not very quick, but there built for hauling. I don't understand the concept of needing extra pressure, then again, I'm just a learning back yard mechanic.

The oil pumps are high volume. High pressure isn't needed. Same as the cummins engines that came out in the early 80's with the high torque, low rpm, 40 lbs oil pressure. Real hard to get used to when for years a guy was dropping gears at 1800 rpm and seeng 70 lbs oil pressure.

Letting an engine pull down to 1400 just went against normal thinking and oil pressure at 40 was a sign of a coming problem.

Better for what? More oil out of the relief valve? Diminished fuel economy? International calls for at least 10 pounds at hot idle. Your fine. Volume is important moreso than pressure. All the pressure you could muster isnt worth anything if the tolerances are too tight.

He is right, these engines dont need high oil pressure, they are a high volume...lower pressure pump and are the best IMHO out of most all oil pumps on diesel engines, they last forever and I have never had a problem with them, i ran a 85 6.9 that was in my 1990 clean out of oil....stuck a valve, and i plugged my oil gauge line and filled it with oil and away I went.

10lbs per 1k rpms is all any engine needs. But why.. would you rebuild the engine and not rebuild or replace the oil pump?? If youre literally dying for more oil pressure you can shim the relief valve or change the spring to get it to bypass later, aka more pressure. The engine tolerance isnt a whole lot more than around 60 so more than that you will start having gasket and o-ring failures.

I guess as far as changing the oil pump I didn't think about geting a new one...but all you guys are saying for me to relax...so I shall ...A ford guru over here where I live listened to her..and said he has never heard a more quite and smooth n/a 7.3 ever and he went so far as to donate to my project a turbo and all acc to instal her...that was today...I'm so excited to get her put on...and give her just a touch more fuel...

Your stock oil pump is better than the aftermarket ones, I wouldnt bother if there is not too much play in it. these things last forever. I say your fine.
