Another oil gusher.

I just replaced oil coooler, egr delete, replaced all Orings and gasket in both HPOP, and cooler to include all orings in oil filter housing and its been doing fine. I pulled my boat about miles and it did fine. The next day I hauled it about 10 more miles but had to up a steep hill about 1/10th mile long. Still did fine. The truck sat for about 3 hours and I left (without the boat) to go home. about 3 miles into my 10 mile trip home, I started smelling oil burning and as soo as I smelled it, the oil pressure (factory gauge) dropped to zero then came back up about 10 seconds later. It did that 2 more times and finally stayed flat. EOT was 194 ECT 189 @ 1400 rpm. I limped home with the EOT never going above 194 and as soon as i pulled in the drive, it dumped at least 2-3 quarts on the concrete. Looks like the oil came from somewhere around the oil supply line to turbo. Drain tube is clean, so I don't suspect it coming from turbo unless it came from bottom of the supply line but can anyone tell me if there is enough pressure there to make oil squirt up on tope of the sensors on the oil filter housing?
Thanks
Tim

Thanks. I just go that one out and it looks to be fine. maybe it came from between the oil filter housing and the cover of the oil cooler. IDK?

best you can do is clean it down and let it run maybe you'll see it better.

Can anyone point me toward something that lists the torques for the oilfilter housing? I've looked in the tech folder and I know they are there but I can't seem to find them. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the info Benny. This truck is starting to get me frustrated. No one should have the troubles I've had out of a 6.0.

It is not terribly uncommon for the oil pressure sensor to leak (and also oil temp sensor). I would bet on the pressure sensor since it was bouncing around.

That may be the case. Both sensors were covered in oil and they were the highest point with anything on it.

Thanks!!

I'm with Mark on this one. You would be far from the first one to have experienced this type of failure very shortly after doing a set of coolers or having everything apart. For this reason, I always remove the oil pressure switch and the EOT sensor from the housing whenever I have one of these apart for cleaning.

BTW, I am referring to your OIL PRESSURE SWITCH (the single wire sender that "sends" information to your oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster) that has likely failed causing oil to leak all over top of the engine, which is also very consistent with your description of your oil pressure gauge dropping out as well. Go to your nearest Ford store to pick up a new sender and replace to fix your issue.

Thanks for that advice. I just got back from dealer and picked up the oil pressure switch/sensor. It looks like the oil might have came up thru the sensor. I guess that falls in line with what you and Mark are talking about. What would have caused that? Too much pressure, bad sensor, both?
The oil level was good but the sensor is 7 years old and is partially plastic. Combined with the heat and pressures it's exposed to, I can totally understand why it would fail. I guess this is pretty common?

Thanks again for you advice. You guys ROCK!!
