modify my 150 or get a v10 sd?

Hi, i'm new here , please excuse any ignorance. I have an 02 150 supercrew 135k miles, 4x4, 5.4, 3.55 gears, auto and stock everything overall excellent condition. I pull a tt about 5000lbs with gear and cargo. On ramps, hills take everything this truck has. Would i be better off modding this truck or look for a sd with a v10? This is primarily a tow vehicle so i'm not too concerned with mpgs or a stiffer ride. A ps sd is more power and noise than i need. I live in colorado so please consider i need to have the ability to hold at least 70 mph when on a 11000 foot pass. I say 70mph so with a bad head wind i could still hold 55 or 60. Currently i'm screaming at 4500 rpm at 45mph with no head wind in this situation.

Deeper gears may help your situation but they will not take the revs away. Your F150 needs to rev to make power, 4500 rpm is not hurting it at all as long as you are doing your routine maintenance.

You are in somewhat the same situation I am in, except my camper is 7700 lbs.

I too am looking for a diesel or at least a V10 SuperDuty.

I love my F150 but reality must say, that I will eventually kill my F150, plus my kids are too big for the extended cab. I need a crew cab.

I say, don't waste you cash upgrading your F150, for your elevation go for a diesel. Part of the problem is that as you pull higher you are losing air density and therefore losing HP and Torque.

A turbo Diesel resolves this problem for you.

Sreaming at 70 is not a good idea in a travel trailer, your tires on the trailer are most likely ST rated tires, and ALL ST tires are rated at 65 MPH. You will eventually blow one of them out if you drive that fast pulling a travel trailer.

Just my opinion, and worth what you paid for it.

Thanks!

Jeremiah
