04 F350 No power and low boost
I have a bone stock 04 F350 6.0 except for ARP head studs. I recently ordered a new MBRP exhaust and I will be tuning it also. Trying to find out the pros and cons of ECM versus FICM tuning before i buy. My problem right now though is the last time I towed my camper it just didnt seem to accelerate as well as it had in the past. I was thinking it was a low boost issue. I bought a edge insight CTS and under hard acceleration from a stand still I indicate 0psi boost and when it does come in it tops out at 18psi. It doesnt smoke or hiccup at all, it just doesnt run as well as it did in the past. CTS indicating 48 Volts FICM power. Could it be the EGR? The engine was studded and both the oil and EGR cooler replaced about 10k miles ago.Any suggestions?? THANKS!!

Need to check MAP sensor and tube for plugage and any soot cloging it up also go over the CAC Boots really good for any leaks there 18 psi Boost is Low and could be a Number of things
At KOEO Post readings for
EBP
MAP
BARO
Scan for Codes/DTC you can have without a CEL so scan it see what pops up if anything

Thats Good
85% would be like at Idel No Boost
15-20% would be like at WOT 22-28psi Boost
them are just an example and Not Exact numbers but you get the Idea and Yes the VGT silinoid counts Backwards what you would think FYI
Any Exhaust smell in the CAB????
#5
No exhaust smell or smoke. Also I should have stated no DTC's either. I had read on one of your previous post to look at MAP, BARO, etc.. I am going to set the insight CTS guage set to each of those in turn and see what I get. I know on a car the MAP sensor voltage varies from about 2.5 -5 volts at least on my old daytona. What should I see on the 6.0 MAP voltage or pressure?

Need to check FICM voltage this is pretty much a BAD FICM Code
And since your FICM controls injectors It could be contributing to some of the Other codes BOOST relies on proper injector operation thats just one thing basicaly to generate Boost everything needs to work right because boost is generated from exhaust or thats what spins the turbin
I think you might have a couple things going on here

Program or check gauges for FICM Voltage also being you have the P0611 DTC even if you have Good FICM Voltage the FICM will need repaired
Best thing here is to send it to ED at FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair
a new ficm from FORD has same power supply issues getting the FICM rebuilt is the Best course of action
do you have an EGR Deleate????

No EGR delete. And copy that on FICMrepair. The insight indicates 48 volts while its running and I havent had any hard start issues. I was going to do that anyway just to have him beef up my components. Gonna pull the FICM and contact him on MON. I have been on his site several times and I'm considering the FICM tuning while he has it. Need some advice on whats better, Matt's ECM tunes or FICM tunes. Still havent decided on that one. I dont think stacking them is a good idea. Just my two cents. I have been running a tuner on my Sporttrac for 8 yrs but I have never messed with my diesel,YET!!
I will also pull the EGR and see what it looks like. I blew the CAC joint twice while towing and it was smoking like a freight train before I get get off the road. May have plugged up something. Replaced joints with upgraded ord but I have been looking at the ones from Sinister and replace all four.

I just checked KOEO (key on engine off). For some reason my insight doesnt come on when just the key is on. It comes on when you start the truck. Will have to pull the manual back out. My running @ idle readings are BARO- 14.3, No EBP reading, MAP 14 PSI and variable (+/- 2 psi) and MAF averaging 20.

Chek and clean MAP sensor and Tube
Map should Not be less than BARO especialy at Idel
Baro sets the Baseline for MAP and EBP there all 3 pressure Readings
Dont seem to far off though you want those sensors reading the same at KOEO just to check the Integrity of the sensor

Update
Pulled the MAP sensor,EBP sensor, EGR and IAT2 sensor. Found the MAP sensor vaccum hose had been damaged at the fitting when the studs had been done I guess. Also the fitting was mostly plugged with that sticky residue/buildup. EBP was fine. I read that 04's had the PCM flashed where it doesnt factor in. My Edge CTS doesnt see the EBP sensor at all. EGR gummed up also. It was the original so I replaced it. IAT2 gummed up. Cleaned and re-installed. Also did the Blue-spring upgrades and swapped over to RotellaT6 synthetic.
Long story short, truck gets about 28PSI boost now and accelerates ALOT better! But from a dead standstill it is still sluggish. Once it gets on the turbo it runs great. All DTC's are clear at this time.
Will be sending the FICM to Ed on MON for upgrade and Atlas 40. Ordering the Xcal3 from Matt with his 3 tune bundle and will be installing a 4" MBRP stainless turbo back when it gets here.
My question is should I wait for these mods and pull the intake to clean it? Considering several sensors where gummed up. What causes this? I had the CAC boots blow off three times, could this have caused it?

they all have a little Turbo Lag
Tunning will help turbo lag and some folks go to a PowerMax turbo
Always gona be alittle Turbo LAG with a VGT controlled turbo vs a Waistgate System
when I shoot for a Gap in traffic I just do a PowerBrake almost just enough to get the Turbo Spooled up so it will Take right off.
How bad is the Turbo Lag??????????
Alot more Positives than negatives to do an EGR Deleate
if your going to pull the intake manafold to clean might as well check the oil cooler spread and change the oil cooler if it needs it and install a EGR Deleate if possible

I wouldn't want to use something too harsh & screw it up.
