2000 X Headlights aren't very good.
I have decided to tackle the headlights in my X. There seems to be a lot of info bouncing around. I hear talk about new housings, need a new wiring harness, get some ultra light bulbs, etc.
I stopped and got the high end Sylvania bulbs. I replaced the right side only and will go check it out when the sun goes down.
I checked the voltage drop also.
Engine running: 14.17V @ batt and 13.31 at the light socket.
Should I get the newer housings and just live with it? I have been looking on ebay - prices are all over the place.
Buy HIDs?
Buy the complete xeon replacement bucket, etc?
I want some good lamps.
I don't care about them looking cool - just want to be able to see at night.
Lay it on me.
Thanks,
D.

Some upgraded housings:
InPro Car Wear Clear Headlights for 99 to 01 Ford Truck and Excursion
Upgrade wiring harness:
9007 Headlight Heavy Duty Wiring Harness Upgrade
Can order the above to turn on both high and low while in High mode. I wonder if that will burn something up.
European look:
99-04 Ford Super Duty LED Halo Projector Headlights Chrome
Looks like some hacking is required.
I want the easiest path to some headlights that don't suck.

I have the same issue you are having.
Snowseeker is hooking me up with his old 02-04 style headlights so I am going to install those, get some upgraded harnesses from SMS (SMS Custom Wiring Harnesses), and upgrade to Philips Extreme Power bulbs.
That combo is probably the best light you can get short of going with retrofitted projectors.

I have not decided which direction I am going to head yet.
When do you think you will have yours done?

I just installed these:
Amazon.com: Super Duty/Excursion Chrome Conversion Headlights Headlamps Driver/Passenger ...: Automotive
I did not buy the wire harness adapter. I saved $50 by just getting the headlight assembly. I wouldn't recommend it unless you can find a really cheap harness adapter. I bought a set off eBay for $30. It was not worth it because they were not adapters. I had to cut and splice. If I could do it all over again, I'd get the kit.
Of course, for $80 more, you could get the 99-04 compatible. I'd definitely do that, having just done this mod. Cutting the header panel was a real PITA. I wouldn't do it again. The project took about 3-4 hours. The 05 headlights are a very snug fit but they look great. Definitely much brighter with some silverstars and I love the look.
Just my 2 cents...

D,
I was in the same situation 6 months ago with my Excursion - those frosted lights were lousy. Especially when the deer were running around in the fall. Here are a couple of links to some previous installs. Worked well for me and the front light were about $115 off of ebay. Also is a link to install fog lights on a 2000 since they did not come as an option:

I wish I could give a specific time table but right now the lights are not really a priority. Just have a plan of what I want to do.

I compiled all my parts.
I worked on it some today, but I only got a couple pics of the new relay light harness. I am going to hook my headlamps into my 2nd battery. I hope to have it all knocked out tomorrow.
The clips holding the lamps in are a bear to get out. I found some aftermarket ones that will be a lot easier to pull if I need to do so in the future.
