Quick question, I hope Im not bothering, but are the steel spacers cheaper ($)than the aluminum ones?

Funny thing, im trying to fit the same rims you did, they are on now but rub when i turn and are too far in.

Thanks?

No bother at all. Yeah the steel ones is a small bit cheaper by maybe like 40-60 dollars. When you're mounting any of the 2008 or later wheels these are the spacers needed for the proper offset and none of the 08 or later wheels will rub after installing the spacers.

breaker 1-9, I called you on sunday and got your message, sorry I havent called back. My questions are:
I thought these were the steel ones but I re-read and they are aluminum. I wanted to get the steel ones from fred for strength and towing. What did fred say about the aluminum ones? Is there any worry on payload, towing etc? I know they are Alcoa alum and not cheap stuff but still unsure.
My truck is an 04 f250 which has 14x1.5 stud thread by 2". From what Ive read ford started going to 14x1.5 from 14x2.0 in 2003. So I'm not sure if the studs are correct for my vehicle.
Also, you said you have to shave down the factory 2" studs to fit these spacers. I thought with 2" spacers there would be no shaving due to studs only being 2"? Thanks

When you put them on you will think it doesn't need any shaving. However you do need to shave the smooth area off of the studs I think it's a 4th of an inch? Fred would include a card to remind people to shave their studs even though it looks as everything is flush.

I had to learn the hard way 2 years ago when I mounted 08 SD 18" wheels and figured things looked and seemed flushed enough that I could bypass shaving the studs as Fred mentions. Well after having run things the way it were on our previous 01 Excursion it almost costed us our lives as coming around a few turns maybe over 30+ mph we could hear almost a thumping like sound and 4-5 studs off of the spacer snapped off and we got home safely with the rim riding on only the 3-4 studs that were left on the spacer.

This was all due to not listening to Fred on shaving down the stock studs. I since that time got me 2 additional sets of the spacers from him, one set steel, and one set Alum. I asked Fred breifly about towing with the Alum. ones and he said they are pretty much the samething in the tolerance of the metal as the steel ones. The only real difference is the Alum. ones are a bit lighter over the steel ones, and the steel ones get really really nasty overtime due to galvanic corrosion. They can get so bad that just after a year period they won't even look like a spacer anymore because how bad the rust/corrosion can get.

I remember seen a set of steel spacers here in the F/S area I believe it was and it looked quite bad.

As for the exact thread size I don't got something handy to take measurments off of it but I do know it will fit SD's from 99-07, and same goes for the Excursions, 00-05. Could always give Fred a call and he will say the same as well. Infact Fred even has my old Alum. ones that had the snapped off studs. I sent it to em after having them sitting in my storage for a year or so to get repaired by Fred.

Member ID *Monsta* here on the forum I think also witnessed how the threaded studs got sheared right off when this took place as he's the one who mounted up our wheels/tires when I had got me a new set of spacers. Really was scary knowing that such a heavy vehicle had one of it's tires riding on only a few studs.

Powder coat the steel ones before you put them on, mine are a year old and still look new!
