Would you make this deal?
Hi all -
I am thinking about taking a plunge I swear I'd never do - switch from a Chevy to a Ford!
I own a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab. I love the thing. It was my first "real" vehicle purchase and it was what I wanted.
The good: 4x4 with Z71 off package, big fat AT grabber tires, step rails, is the ***** in the snow and mud. Tows my small fishing boat. Sounds and looks like a "truck" (sadly, true loud and gritty "trucks" are fading).
The bad: Sucks sucks sucks on gas. I'm guessing I get 15/16 MPG highway! Bright red in color (not my choice is very, well, bright), gas is astronomical in this thing, extremely loud on highway with wind, sways easily with wind on highway, small things inside of the truck are done with poor craftsmanship.
Here's the bottom line: The gas mileage is a deal-breaker. I drive roughly 22 minutes to work a day and find myself filling up once every 6 days. At the end of the month, I'm spending $250 just on GAS! City MPG is worse!. I was thinking of trading it in for something better on the MPGs but can also drive well in New England weather (snow, sleet, rain) and tow a small boat. That's when I thought of the Ford Escape.
Here is a link to the dealership Escape.
Used car inventory: buy a preowned car, truck, SUV, automobile
I only owe 7K on my Colorado and the dealer said they'd give me at least 14K for it (thus giving me roughly 6-7K to put for a down payment).
Given my criteria for a new car (good MPG, sporty yet rugged, can tow a small boat, reliable, great in the snow) is this 09 Escape something that could fulfill those needs?
Anyone know much about the 2009 model in comparison to the 2010 model (if there is even any differences)...?
Thanks for your help - It should be an interesting decision.

The 2009 model year is when all Escapes received upgrades in the drivetrain with more hp and six speed autos so the 2010 models are essentially the same. They will certainly perform well in New England winters and get far better mileage. If you get the V6 it will also pull your fishing boat with ease.
