installing seat belts in my 56 F100 this weekend

bought a set of 3" vintage simpson repros and will be installing lap belts in my 56 this weekend. The truck has never had belts installed (hard to believe), so I will be the first to drill holes and mount belts.
I'll post pics as I do the install.... should be fuin and hopefully, somewhat straightforward.

sounds like fun... are you using an install kit? If not make sure you use Grade 8 bolts and washers. I always stiffen things up with a piece of steel plate under the cab to strengthen and spread out the load. Have fun.

good tips

I will see what the kit comes with (they say it comes with plates and bolts) we'll see. The best part is that this is forcing me yank the seat, pull the carpet and at least pull out some of the Dymat to see if I have any new rust, damage, etc. Since i bought this truck recently, it will give me some time to get to know the interior.
While I am at it, I am going to do a new stereo and a set of speakers (what I have, doesn't work anyway), so I can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Safety and tunes

Should be a fun weekend. I will post pics.

Take pictures and measurements, please. My '56 has never had belts installed either so that is on my to do list before I put the truck on the road. And you purchased your belts where?

I am installing this weekend.....

I will take pics and document the install on Saturday.

here is where I bought them
Seat Belts

most seatbelts come in 6 feet lengths, unless you are doing something super different (high seats, custom mounts, etc.), you may need longer and you can get longer.

I put the seat belt kit from Mid-50 in my 56. They even have a plate that bolts in for the shoulder belt. I have pics of it installed in my gallery.

Yes please post pics! I too am adding seat belts to an otherwise virgin floor. Have the belts, hardware and plates on the way. Should be here anytime.

seat belts are installed

took me a couple hours and it was pretty simple. I bought Simpson race belts (repros) and have never had belts in my truck before. really pretty easy. I have a bench from a 68 GTO so whatever your seats are, this info may vary.
I bought the 64" belts and I am 6ft / 225lbs, and they are adjusted at the max.... so keep that in mind when buying a specific length with your setup.

Those are serious belts. Look good in there though. I was curious about where and how you put the mounting holes in the floor? Was wondering if they had to kinda go under the gas tank or if they worked well being just in front of it. Didn't know if that would put the belt at and odd angle or not.

I've got a stock seat and I'm fat so i ordered the 72" belts with all chrome lift handle buckles. I'll be putting in 3 sets that way the kids are both belted in too.
