'98 F-150 standard cab left side door adjustment

I'm trying to get the drivers side door to close and feel I need to shim the hinges some. I'd like to be able to shim the top hinge on the body side. The bolts are hidden behind the edge of the fender. How do you access these bolts? Any body peope out there? Thank you. bl2009

I realize this is an old post but never answered. Nearly all hinge problems have the same issues including hood, glove box, doors. Open them too far and the ends bend moving the ends closer and if the door gets bound in the process it exaggerates the problem. Depending on the amount of stretch or distortion caused a quick fix can be as simple as placing an object in between the inner and outer hinge and putting pressure upon the door in a place not likely to add more damage. Like the upper ares above the door handle where the door is narrower and the window opening begins. The opposite effect is hyper extending the hinge. Opening the door to the point of its limiting device then applying more pressure to bend it . a little common since goes a long way here. Both problems are considereed sprung. Replacing a hinge is sometimes the only option when areas you cant manipulate come into play. Vehicles with weld on hinges can sometimes be easily corected in this manner as well. Worn hinge pins and bushings especially on the welded on hinges can some time be worn to the point that the bushing hole is wollowed out. Welding the hole up and redrilling is a viable option that sometimes saves money and time. Hope someone finds this information beneficial, it's sure to work and it's free!

I know the post is old, but I feel I should add my experience.

Backed into the garage with my door open one day, not paying attention and the door slammed into the side wall of the garage while the truck kept going.

Hinges got messed up pretty badly, the front edge of the door was rubbing on the rear edge of the quarter panel and there was no way I could daily drive the truck this way without avoiding further damage.

Ended up removing the entire quarter panel, which is MUCH more involved than you’d think. Just have patience and bag and label all the different bolts you’ll need to remove. Helps to remove the tire where you're working. After this quarter panel is off you'll be able to loosen and readjust the hinges. It’s a long aggravating process but if you fix it right the first time, you won’t regret it. I got it done in one night.
