obd1 o2 sensor... same old question...

i am putting long tube headers on my truck (1993 f150 5.8) and want to know if there is anyway i can run two o2 sensors in series with the one plug??

I keep reading to "just run on one bank", or" attach at a H or Y pipe".... i cant attach to a H or Y due to the routing, the connection would be nearly 70in away. also i dont really want to run just one o2 sensor on one bank - i would like to keep the computer aware of what is happening on the other bank.

please let me know. thanks

Well the computer only has one sensor input so you can't attach two sensors no matter how much you would like to, and it's a proven fact that these EFI systems run PERFECTLY on a single sensor on one side.. so why are you fighting it?

the only reason i want o2 sensor on both banks is in case my driver side bank is screwing up- my computer would never know.

i know that one bank is enough to run the system, also that the stock computer cant tune cylinders individually

im not super familure with OBD1 i kinda went from carbs to OBD2.

guess i'll roll single sided then

If you want to run two O2 sensors, do a maf conversion as these fuel systems used two O2 sensors, or a stand alone fuel management system, but do yourself a favor and don't waste $10 on a .10 cent problem.

The MAF trucks only use one 02 sensor , the fox body 5.0 mustangs mustangs with duel exhaust used two sensors , i just run one in the passenger side header collector and it works fine....

yeah, too bad i have a E4OD transmission so its a little easier said than done. finding the right computer is IMPOSSIBLE where i am.

and if i ever get around to having 23k laying around i can build my super awesome motor and trans that will have custom computer with 8 channel monitoring anyway... but yeah 23k

why not have a bung in each header collector. With that you can buy a good wideband LM1/LC1 o2 sensor. you can set that o2 sensor up to work with the stock PCM and still get great readouts for tuning or troubleshooting. Can I run a wideband instead of a front o2 sensor? - LS1TECH

I know thats a LS1 forum but after comparing the voltages that our fords use and the outputs of those things it should work.

Once you have all that you can just swap the o2 sensor around the 2 collectors at will and use a plug for the other when not in use.

just my 2 cents . if someone has tried this before please chime in!

It's like Conanski says and here's why:
The stock computer only reads the oxygen in the exhaust gas as an absolute high and an absolute low with a set operating range in between. It adjusts the AFR globally according to how much oxygen it senses in that operational range. The computer does not actually monitor either bank, rather, it monitors overall oxygen density in the exhaust flow. This is why it is not necessary to have two O2 sensors.

Have a look at my other posts. My engine is as far from stock as you can get and still be street-legal. It needs a computer tuner just to make it run, but i'm only using a factory style Bosch O2 sensor.

Thanks,
Carl

As Paul said, the PCM is looking for one (and only one) input. The only low-tech solution you could do is to have a sensor on each side and occasionally manually switch which sensor is plugged in to provide that single input. That would probably require a harness extension to accomplish.
