Bringing this back from the dead...

Over the weekend I converted from a 79 grill setup with square lights to a 77 and earlier set up. I then modified a second set of round headlight buckets that now mount inboard of the original set to have quad lights (sorry no pictures right now, I'll take some tonight)

The second set of lights mounted fairly easily. The mounting tabs needed to be cut off, shortened and welded back on and I was only able to use 3 bolt holes on each side but they are in there and fit (no wiring yet)

Does anyone have suggestions for the grille insert? The original posted picture is cool but that would be hard to make from an oem plastic insert. I have though expanded metal but can't decide.

 

I am thinking about making some grille inserts from bar grating (industrial walking surface). I just need to look at a few styles, lots of different materials and spacing a out there.

 

TIG-weld aluminum bar stock to vertical support members.

A honeycomb insert (ala early Mustangs and 05-14 Mustangs) would fit the theme.

.. I wanna see them pics of quad 7s !

Btw, I picked up a pair of 73-75 inserts and will do the mod one of these days... too many projects in the pipeline right now to "play".

Use some of the plastic style lenses and you wouldn't need as much support for the extra set. glass ones are heavy

 

There appears to be enough room to mount another set of buckets inboard of the originals. Once that is established, a piece of sheet aluminum could be fashion behind the grill and painted black to offer support to the grill.

I have a square tubed grill insert (77&79 loves em) that could easily be reworked for this.
But....imo, this is like test tube research on embryos trying to isolate and grow a midget baby. Its cool that someone finally does, but should they?😳

That's a good idea... But I'm one to use an extra set of buckets so the inboards are adjustable.

 

yes. you could even spray tint them so they are less visible when not in use, make them blend with the grill
