Xl grille/headlight bezels

I refuse to put any chrome or chrome like substance on my 83. Bumpers/side mirrors/top and bottom grille trim are getting powder coated Monday. I've tried sanding down priming and painting the crappy chrome covered plastic parts and it looks worse than my model cars I did when I was 10. Is the junkyard the only place I can get the chrome less xl grille parts? Any Internet suggestions? Anyone with some lkq connections?

The XLS 1982 or 1983 models are the only ones that had "black chrome" headlamp doors, and upper and lower grille moldings, and windshield moldings. Would almost be impossible to find in good shape at a wreckers, as the XLS was very rare.

If you want to buy new, I'm not sure if any of the XLS stuff is being reproduced, but you can search for: 1982-1983 XLS

LMC used to sell the black bezels years ago, guess not anymore. So the search is on for a XLS truck...

I happened to stumble upon a guy at a car show last summer that parted one out and bought all the bezels from it. So, my only suggestion is keep your eyes open.

Yeah I remember lmc had them, but like most things in life, didn't have the cash flow back then! And now that I do.... Haha oh well, anything worth doing isn't easy. Let the XLS search begin!

If you are wanting to get away from the chrome look and get more into the black look, then I would suggest that you sand and prep what you want to paint and spray it with some black epoxy primer.

Could always do the Black Chrome thing to.
They sell the stuff to do it at Pep Boys. No idea how good it works, never used it.

Depends on what you plan to use it for. Knew a couple guys that did that with there Jeeps. They liked the protection it provided but after a short while they just couldn't seem to get it to look clean. Not a big deal as they were mostly trail Jeeps but something to think about if you want looks to. BTW, that's the original use it was developed for down under in Aussie land.
