serpentine belt

My girlfriend is worried that i may someday get stuck by a broken serpentine belt. so she bought one today for the truck. It has almost 200k. Im thinking im going to put this one on and put the other in my bag of repair parts behind the seat.

My question is, I don't know if there is a bad belt. the one she got is from A.Z.
It's a dayco poly-rib belt..

Any info on this ???
Is it a decent belt ? thanks.
Phil

As long as it is the right length you will be alright. There are two lengths for the single alternator rigs. 122.3" and 122.7" you need the shorter one most likely.

I'm interested to see what kind of replies you get, I'm in the same boat right at 200k with original belt. I've been thinking there ain't no way I'm putting anything other than a Ford belt on mine after the miles I've got out of this one...but then again I'll be the 1st to admit I don't know everything.

I usually run Gates belts. I change them every 100k because I'd rather change them at home than on the side of the road. I do carry a spare, but is it really too much to ask to change it every 100k? I changed mine for only the 4th time this week.

The Autozoo belt should be just fine. Keep the old one as a spare for the unknown.

I'm not really any help on that belt but my OEM lasted until 214,000. Changed it with Budget O'reilly. I worked fine but was quite worn through at 270,000. Changed OEM Tensioner(Preventive Maintenance) and installed Gates Gatorback, neat design with low grooves to allow it to "mold" to the pulleys. Only about 7 or 8 thousand on that one so far, but looks new.

I bought a belt from Napa. Their high quality one. put it on squealed like a stuck pig and you could hear it 5 blocks away. dump water on it it will go quiet for 1 minute. pissed me off. got a can of belt dressing from napa for $17 more and figured that was the ticket. Still squealed like a stuck pig after 5 seconds of running. Went to Ford bought a real belt, you know the ones that can last 300k. Hell its only $33 bucks. Worked beautifully, never had a problem since then. Well until my air pump shaft broke and ate the belt last week. But i bought another ford belt and life is awesome. Besides its a great piece of mind to know you put something with quality back on my van.

I run a Gates on mine. I believe the Gatorback is by Goodyear. Also a good belt IMO

I've used dayco belts before, nothing wrong with them.

My 7.3 was 340,000 km's, and the factory belt took out the AC electrical harness, and shredded to pieces. Luckily i only made it a few hundred meters from work, so i drove back and found a new belt the next day.

I would run the belt my girlfriend bought. That is pretty neat she took the time to get it. You got a good one, and the belt should work to.

This is on my list of things to get in my survival kit for "Stinky", and I'm going to do the dual-alternator mod to make changing the belt easy.

lee231 is starting off with a positive reputation.
If you have the one where the upper radiator hose goes though the belt, you might want to change the hose to the one that goes around the belt like the two alternator set up.

I changed mine to the dual alternator hose but here's a note for anyone with a Dieselsite coolant filter. The dual alternator hose from Ford would not fit my truck with the coolant filter, it would get crushed a little by the filter, but the Napa dual alternator hose works fine, just barely touches the coolant filter. It's a slightly different shape.

How come there are 2 different belt lengths for the single alternator rigs, and how does one know which length one needs? Part numbers for both? I'd like to pick up a spare serp belt so when I go on long trips or to Baja to support/watch the offroad racing I don't have to be stranded if I throw a belt.

Anyone got a link to the dual alternator radiator hose mod? And a Ford part number for the dual alternator radiator hose?

No plans to add a Dieselsite coolant filter yet, but if I am replacing I may use the NAPA one, just in case. Got a NAPA part number for their dual alternator radiator hose?

Edit: never mind on the dual alternator hose mod info. A google search reveals it looks like alternative part numbers for the upper radiator hose for a dual alternator engine are:

- Ford F81Z-8260-CA
- Gates 22433
- Napa 9066

And you just ziptie the hose to the longer dual alternator radiator hose to the alternator / power steering pump bracket.
