!975 F-250 V8-360 [help]

Looking for some input from more experienced mechanics. My truck is a 1975 Ford F-250 witha 360 V-8 I just replaced the alternater when I go to turn it over it makes a clicking sound not the grinding sound of a bad starter and i traced it back to the Starter relay [i think] Any help is much appreciated.
I apolagize ahead of time for not being all knowledgable of the technical terms regarding mechanics I'm not completely useless but I'm also not a mechanic myself yet xD

I'd say that your starter is bad. Because if it is clicking then the starter solenoid is working.

Weak or dead battery, is your battery fully charged? i.e. 12.6v?

I would make sure your battery is fully charged and clean all the cable ends and terminals before changing anything.

Almost fixed

Thanks for the input it ended up being the battery, I am pretty sure the battery needs replacing, as if the truck gets a jump start it runs fine, but once you turn it off bam the battery is dead and since i just got it a brand new alternater... not to meantion i am pretty sure if it was an alternater problem the battery would die even with the engine running Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though, but i will take the battery for testing in a day or 2 just to be safe.
