HIO, forgot to thank you for the Rust Reformer idea. I did a tiny bit of research on the stuff and how it works. According to this study you picked the best one of the commercial rust converters they tested.
If you have insomnia you can read the first four pages, if you're like me I went to the last page and just read the conclusion and looked at the picture.

The seat frame looks nice and clean!

Over the top again Gavin, I love it. And HIO, nice work amigo. I got lucky, and found some Mercedes buckets, at a swap meet, for $50.00. No real obvious clues, but I suspect that the guy selling them, was not a Mercedes kind of guy. ?? Anyway, since they were in good shape, I did nothing to them, which I may regret in the coming years. I am only 3 blocks from the ocean, so the salt air is a problem. I did fab seat mount brackets, coated them with 3 coats of Rustoleum, and SS bolted them to the cab. Had to switch sides, so control levers are to the inside, to clear the doors. No problem, I have 2 arms with hands on the ends. Anyway, they work.

Nice job guys

Man, do you have any idea how long it takes to read through 75 pages of a build thread?? It's a good thing they're paying me double time today to do this.....

Hio, this is absolutely fantastic, the truck looks awesome, and sounds great!!

I have a blast cabinet, but I'm going to give the electrolosis a try, for some stuff that I don't want to blast.

BTW, was stationed out there, 85-89 , NAS Lemoore, airframe/hyrdaulics mech on A-7 Corsairs.

LOL! My buddy was with VA-56... last name is Timmons. A plane captain if I recall correctly.

Ha! I wish I had a blast cabinet, then I wouldn't be doing the electrolysis gig on everything. I even did some lawn tractor wheels back around page 40-49. Btw, after it comes out of the vat, ya gotta scrub off the black stuff and hit it with primer (or WD-40 in the case of calipers) before it starts to flash rust.

Tomahawk, good to go! I guess it's serendipity. I tend to lean on companies with track records instead of fly-by-night companies. Hence, Edelbrock over QuickFuel. Btw, I just heard MSD and Mallory are going to merge under the MSD company name.

Seats.... It's been "race day" so I brought the seats in for work while watching F1 and the Indy 500.. laundry is going on too.... managed to get the seat bottom burlaped, edged, and the bolster hold down rods hog-ringed in. That's purple stuff is plain ol' electrical tape... easy work-around and it should last waaay longer than paper like the factory did.

VA-56 was right across the street from us! I just got the blast cabinet from Harbor Freight, it's worked pretty well. Love how you mounted the PV for the brakes, I may have to do something similar.

Looking good amigo, this will last a long time. Attention to detail, & the speed of right, gets it done to last, every time. The lake is full, and it is still raining, here in Granbury, Tx. Looking for my waders now..

Daggumit

... after posting up yesterday I trial-fitted the Sport R seat foam and it stood too proud of the seat base - likely due to thick, uncrushed edge protection around the perimeter. The seat foam was also far from contacting the springs and the listing wire anchors. 'Not exactly accurate according to TMI's claim that hat they "install just like stock upholstery".

Piquing my curiousity, I found a couple of U-tube vids and it turns out that the listing wire anchors are not used, the foam simply sits on the base un-ringed and the foam is basically held to the base by the upholstery.

I'll need to remove the stock edge protection and go with something thinner.... They'll be reused on the low back buckets that will also be reupholstered.

One step forward, two steps back. Oy.

I layed the foam upside down and it seemed to have enough "crush" to get it tight with my full weight. I said screw it and proceeded to get the base done...

Done.

New burlap for that authentic look and feel....

Edge-banded:

Here we go......

Lots of stretching, pulling, tugging... it was like wrestling with angry raccoon in a sleeping bag. New hardware.. bumpers, handle and escutcheon, and side covers. Done.

I think it being a tight squeeze made it that much nicer. Looking forward to seeing them installed.

looks great , put the seat upholstery out in the sun for a hour or so , or if no sun toss it in a pillow case and put in the dryer for just 5 minutes , this will make the material easier to work with .

Yep did that... in fact, I sealed the upholstery in its shipping bag and then out in the sun so the heat didn't escape. Nice and hot.....

and it was still tight - like a flesh tuxedo. Fingers still aching.
