Something I Bought New 26 Years Ago Came Back Home To Me.

In 1986 I bought a new 86 LTL 9000, in 1991 I traded it off for a new LTLA 9000. I never did like the LTLA as much as I did the 86 LTL. Two years ago I started a search for my 86 LTL, finally about a year I gave up thinking it was a lost cause, thinking that possibly it did not even exist anymore. I ended up buying an 86 LTL out of California that was a super clean truck. I stretched it out to 250 inch wheel base and added a sleeper trying to clone my original 86. Unable to find a used 80 inch sleeper like the one I had on the original truck I ended up putting a 60 inch KW sleeper on the LTL. I had made the comment to some friends on another board that about the time I got the sleeper on I would end up finding an 80 inch like. wanted to begin with. Spring forward to this past Tuesday. I had the KW sleeper installed by some friends in Houston and had picked my truck up Tuesday and brought it back to Central Texas. Wednesday morning I got a phone call from a friend at my favorite heavy truck junk yard telling me he had just a got a 86 model LTL in and did I want any parts off of it. He went on the tell me how the truck was specked out and the more he talked the more it sounded like my old truck. Reality started to set in thinking that thousands of these trucks were built and there is no doubt that many were specked the same. He said that he had sent me some pictures of it. I quickly opened the pictures to look then over and as soon as the first picture came up, there was no doubt that was my truck. We all personalize our trucks and this truck was no exception, there it was everything I did to make it different than any other one ever built. My truck had finally made full circle and came back to me.

Here it is at the salvage yard.

IF there's anyway possible get that truck and bring it home where it belongs!!!! This is the chance in a lifetime. This is a great story. Just get it and worry about the rest later. It may not be a one owner, but you can always say I bought this baby "NEW".

Thanks guys, I have decided to go to Houston this week and buy it. It is a once in a lifetime thing to someone that likes trucks.

I hated to see Truck City move, the old derrick was a land mark.

I am so glad to hear you are going to buy it again. Hope you don't have to pay as much for it the second time as you did the first time.

This is jut a wonderful story actually this story will more than likely out live us.

It looks like the Ford truck your going after has a Mack front bumper on it now.

It now belongs to me, I did the deed and bought it. The Cat 3406B runs great and is very solid. It will take a while to get it like I want it. It sure holds a lot of good memories.

Congrats my friend, this is a great story and I am so glad you got that special truck back. You may have even saved it from getting scraped. This is what its all about "the love of trucks".
