Good Riding Leaf Springs

Hey guys, I installed a zone leveling kit (leaf spring kit my truck is an 04) in August and it has settled down about an inch or so now and since I needed a drop pitman arm and trac bar bracket because of my initial lift my pitman arm now hits my drivers side leaf springs. I am going to get a stock track bar bracket (thanks wizkid!) and pitman arm and see if they can be reinstalled and work properly (I have an adjustable trac bar) but if I cant adjust the draglink for the new pitman arm than I will have to stay with a 4" drop.

Strange thing is the leveling kit brought my front end up to 29" hub to center of wheel arch and after talking with Dennis on here who has a 4" lift his is the same height so this leads me to believe that since I have the stiffer plow prep front springs I basically got a 4" lift equivalent of a truck without the stiffer springs. I'm thinking that because the stock springs are nearly flat that if I was to get front 4" lift springs then they would have a bigger arch to them preventing my pitman arm from hitting it while maintaining the same height.

If I am to get 4" springs what is the best riding spring? I was looking at Icon and BDS mainly since they both have great reviews on their kits.

Very interesting, thanks for posting this up!

When i get home I'm going to compare my measurements with the wheel arch heights on the table above to see how close it is.

I don't know why, but the first time I read the article in the magazine, I thought it was a 6" lift....

I can't give you any advice on BDS or Icon. I agree that they are both very reputable companies, but honestly I have heard that every SD lift rides anywhere from **** to harsh. The exception is Kelderman air ride, but most of us aren't made of money. EMU seemed to give a glimer of hope. I'd prefer functionality (ride quality) over size any day... Its not the size of the ship, its the motion in the ocean

On another note, I am fairly certain you can buy the graphite paint EMU uses and order some teflon from McMaster-Carr and work on your own spring packs. Have them rearched at spring shop and go from there.

Agreed man, as long as it rides as good as stock which is pretty damn harsh then I'm ok because I have dealt with it for years.

I'm gonna check my measurements with theirs because if I'm at the same height then there is no sense in changing, I'm just trying to make my pitman arm clear. worst case i could adjust the stop because the spring stops it anyway so whats the difference.

I'm just confused how Dennis has a 4" lift and i only have a leveling kit and he has no clearance issues with his truck but yet mine sits at the same height and i have a pitman arm issue.

These are the two trucks i originally based my lift off of in my truck First is 3" with 35's and the second is an 05 with a 4"and 35-36" tires i believe. they both have the stance I was aiming for and I basically have it once i remove my 2" block.

Its been a while since I have had a pitman arm off, but is it possible the shop put the arm on and have it off a tooth or 2? Meaning that by the steering box, your truck can turn sharper one direction. This could have been covered up by adjusting your tie rod ends from pitman arm to the axle. Basically, they just adjust your alignment to make the steering wheel centered.

On another note, could get a piece of 1/4 or 3/8 plate, drill holes to match, and insert it between the steering box and the frame rail?

I could try that, never thought of that. The shop did say that they had a puller on it at 300 psi for 4 hours and it didn't budge idk how they got it off i didn't ask lol. I would imagine the new one should come off fairly easy though since it hasn't been on a year and the old was was on for the past 10 years lol.

yeah by far my favorite is that guy's he changed it to the 05 front end its beautiful now.

My Ranger one came off with a screw puller without a problem. I just can't remember if the pitman arms are keyed to go on one way . I know they are splined the whole way around. If you pull the pitman arm, make sure you anti-sieze the hell out of the splines before putting it back on.

I do like the 05 front conversion.... What tire size is he running?
