After a lot of real lean years, I am finally able to secure the funding needed to get Ole Red on the road. My latest Cali-Desert Bonus Built was already set up for a SBC. I've built many SBF's/SBC's and both are bitchin, so don't gimmie no guff !
It's a Summit Crate Motor with only 1500 miles on it. The price? - Free...
The plan - Street driven - No highway. Occasional 1/8th mile passes at Barona Raceway. An intersection "poser" with a bit too much cam through super quiet exhaust. RPM window 2200-6200.
Edelbrock Aluminum Street Heads. 2.02/1.60 185CFM runners. 64cc chambers. 10:1 Compression.
Comp ***** Thumpr Cam - Yes, I know there are better grind profiles for power. Thumpr's are posers at idle but they clean up well off idle and work fine to 6000 RPM. Stall is 2800 with a 3.50 Gear.
Re-Pop Corvette 2 1/2" outlet Rams Horns. Quiet and fine to 5500 RPM plus they clear my Toy Steering Box.
Holly 600 4150 - MSD Electronics - 2 Piece Timing Cover - Lots of Tranny goodies...

Looks great and sounds like it will be a really nicely built motor! I, for one, don't care what anyone puts in their own truck - that is why it is yours, you do what you want.
Mine has a SBC too, the PO had it in there and I rebuilt it instead of changing everything. Then I changed everything anyway.

Free motor, with 1500 miles???? You are one lucky guy Id say. I took a little peek in your album and gotta add, your truck looks great with that color scheme, your bound to catch a few guys off guard at the green light, it looks stock on the outside, but surprise Vrooom Vrooom, goodby lol. Do you still have the straight axel?, hold on tight.

Yeah, I rebuilt the entire stock front end. If I had the dough at the time, I'd have gone with a Mustang II. I still might do that in the future but for now I just want to get Ol Red on the street.
The drum system has freshly plumbed lines, stainless hoses, and a Mustang Dual Reservoir. Everything is new at the backing plates. The reality is, I drive like a grandma nowadays and a drum system in proper working order is fine for me. The only time I romp on it is going up on-ramps or at the track where slowing down isn't an issue.
In my youth, I'd be running more serious heads, a proper race-cam profile, probably a 750 CFM carburetor, and obnoxious mufflers. Nowadays, I just want to cruise quietly to events with Momma, and shoot the breeze with other hot-rod senior citizens.
