2013 Escape
#16
Ford has finally released the mileage numbers for the 2013 Escape. The 2.0 L ecoboost is rated at 30 highway FWD and 28 highway 4WD (5 mpg better than 2012 model). I was expecting a bit better as the Edge FWD is rated at 30 mpg highway but it is a 5 mpg improvement. The 1.6 L ecoboost is a bit better at 33 mpg highway.

Owned a 2008 XLT with a I 2.3 engine. Found out Ford was changing the body style completely and after looking at the pic's decided we don't want a 2013. We bought the Escape awd because we needed it because of the weather etc. Don't need a vehicle that looks like it has a snow scoop for a grille. Recently found a new 2012 Escape Limited with the I 2.5 engine that gets 3 miles to the gallon better than the 08. Also the ride on the 2012 is better than the 08. I never buy a first off the line model. We are extremely satisfied with the 2012 Escape Limited.

tcesni, you have to remember that the escape is taller and has a much larger frontal cross section. The Cd may be low, but there's a lot of square feet to multiply by to get the actual drag. The Fusion has a smaller cross section, so would get better hwy mpg as drag increases by the square.
Get out of the aerodynamic speed range, where it is less significant(slower), and you'd be surprised what the achieved mileage can be.

Hopefully the new one will have more comfortable seats. Our 2010 steel blue limited with V6 was all we could ask for except for the seats needed a bit more padding. My dad and I both had sore tail bones after a 1400 mile trip. Wife and I traded the Escape for a 2012 Fusion SEL V6 for the same reason. Not too thrilled about the 2013 Ford Hyundai Fusion. We might warm up to it after it's out but we wanted one of the last of the Ford looking vehicles while we had the chance. The leather seats in the Fusion with comfort package are like sitting in small recliners. I want a set for my F250.

Not actually a Hyundai Fusion. Just makes me think of the midsize Hyundai. Especially the rear end. I like Ford's current look of the Fusion and Escape.

I like the front end of the 2013 Fusion. It's the back end that makes me think of the Hyundai. Nothing against the Hyundai. They're nice looking cars. We got our 2012 and I hope the new ones are a hot seller. I might warm up to them by the time we're ready to replace the 2012. I sat in a new Focus last weekend. Odd looking dash but very comfortable seat. I like the dash of the Prius better.

I just looked at a new 2013 Escape on the lot at a Ford dealer northeast of Indianapolis. Quite interesting to look at. The rear view is less like a Hyundai than I expected and overall it makes the 2012 Escapes look very plain, downy and just plain old. The interior looked nice, my primary concern is the sloping roofline. Not sure if my wife's bicycle will stand upright in the back when the front wheel is removed. Overall a very nice looking vehicle.

Stopped at my dealer for an oil change today. They had a 2013 Titanium on the floor with the hood up.
Doesn't look very mechanic friendly compared to the old design. The cowl in front of the window extends in covering part of the engine. The battery is in the back under it with a cover over it too. Seems like the cowl will have to come off for most anything and the brake fluid reservoir is attached to it. Wiper blade arms would have to be removed also as they go though the cowl.
I think that one can forget about a physically bigger EcoBoost going into it as there isn't enough room.
Tried to look at the rear end as it was a 4WD but there appears to be a protection plate of sorts attached to the bottom. Wanted to look at the new dry clutch unit powered rear end used starting in 2013MY on the Escape.
