Additional help from the 7.3 Geniuses
Hey,
I posted two threads in the Super Duty forum, because I thought it pertained more to them than the Diesel forum specifically. However, I know some of you don't like that thread, so I was hoping this could be a bridge to get your advice as well. Didn't want to double post
This one is just another picture thread:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...formation.html
This is the important one:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...hubs-99-a.html
Thanks for your help!

If I am following your description correctly, it sounds like the needle bearing in the unit bearing hub assembly may be shot. The axle stub shaft should be turning fairly straight, as it is supported on both ends by the gear in the locking hub and the needle bearing. If the needle bearing at the back of the hub is worn, the gears in the locking hub can be misaligned and cause the noise.
