460 was not available in F100/350's until 1973 / 460 not available with a M/T or 4WD until 1983, F350's only initially.
No 460's available in F100's after 1977, no 460's available in F150's after 1979 (after 1977 in CA).
Is it a 460? It could be a 429 as both engine look identical. 1971/78, some 1979's 429/460's share the same block casting number [D1VE-6059-AB].
Measure the stroke to determine engine size: 429 = 3.59" / 460 = 3.85" / 429 = 1968/73 Ford/Mercury Passenger Cars / 1968/71 Thunderbird.

I've seen it in person, as Brady is a SoCal Chapter member, attends GTG's.

Best answer to that question is, let me look it over first. Being as how you are in NE, I'll bet you've found an old farm workhorse set up for hauling. In that case it's bound to have more "acres" on it than miles on the odometer. Check it over real good...if it starts, runs, drives and shifts okay, I'd offer him $750 to $1200. If it won't do any of the above, I wouldn't pay more than $800 for it...even though it is a crew.

I just paid 2000.00 for my 72 f 350 crew cab long bed. but it was to clean not to... the body was pretty much flawless. so 800.00 for a crew your gonna have to put a little money into for the body doesent sound horrible. as long as what they were saying checks out. starts, drives, shifts, ect...

Where your located also effects the price around me any crew cab that needs a good amount of work to be in good condition replace floors cab mounts new fenders can still go for acouple grand I'd hate to see what a crew would go for around here that was in as good condition as highntight's was

well a couple of things i left out last night when i posted it the floor pans are all solid it almost looks as if theyve been replaced both front fenders have been replaced with LMC fenders he siad it ran when he bought it he told me he pu tunder 500 miles on it since hes had it but it needs a new battery to start and run. he told me he wants $2500 for it today when i got ahold of him. and as i said it does has some rust on the cab corners and on the fron doors .
Numberdummy:
the air breather said 429 on it but the sticker on the valve covers said 460 so i belive its a 460?

And, how do you know the valve cover with the 460 sticker on it is original to the engine? Both 429/460's have 7 valve cover bolt holes per side, 429/460 valve covers interchange.
Like I said, 429 looks identical to 460, shares the same block and casting number 1971/78, some 1979's (D1VE-6059-AB). 1968, 1969, 1970 429/460's have year specific block casting numbers.
Mid-year 1979, FoMoCo changed the 460 (affected F100/350's and Econolines only *), the block casting number is D9TE-6059-AB .. uses a weighted spacer.
The D9TE blocks flywheel and harmonic balancer are different than with the D1VE and 1968/70 blocks, as none of these have the weighted spacer.
Measure the stroke to determine engine size, otherwise...
* No 460's in Passenger Cars after 1978 / No 429's after 1973 (excepting 1979 and later 600 and larger series trucks) / No 460's in F100's after 1977 / No 460's in F150's after 1979.
1983 was the first year the 460 was available with a M/T and 4WD. All prior year vehicles with 460's came with C6's. 1973/79 F100/350 460's were all 2WD.
