1995 7.3 Powerstroke won't start

I've got a 1995 F250 with a 7.3 powerstroke, and it had 298,000 miles on it when one day I was driving down the road and it just quit. It was as if someone literally turned the key off, as it did not make any noises or act in a way that would suggest something was going wrong, it just shut off immediately. Now, it just cranks, and won't even attempt to fire. We put a new cam position sensor on it to no avail, and checked the fuel flow and it was fine. Our mechanic friend told us it might be the PCM....which i know nothing about. Anybody have any insight? Much appreciated.

check fuse number 22 under the hood. it is for the fuel heater in the bowl and controls power to the pcm. if the fuel heater shorts it'll blow the fuse. if it is blown unplug it from the bowl, replace the fuse drive as normal. don't worry about the fact that the heater is not plugged in

Like said check the fuse. Had mine blow cause by the heater element in bowl under filter. Pull filter and look inside to see if the metal wire element is move around if so that is it. Or like said just pull wire and replace fuse.

Should also ask if the truck has a chip? A lost/ bad connection with the PCM can cause the same symptoms...

What color CPS did you get? I've read where they can be bad out of the box. If you got a gray one, find a black one. Once you do get it started, the gray one will be shot within 6 months.

I had issues with my VSS shutting the truck down on the highway. Mine always restarted though without my intervention.

None of the fuses were blown when the truck died. And the truck is not chipped.

So, what would the problem be if the wait to start light doesn't turn on? And if it does?

as said above, no wait to start light means no power to the pcm, and fuse 22 under the hood powers the pcm as well as the fuel bowl heater which is a common problem of shorting out and thus no power to pcm and no start.. if you have a wts light, as asked above, you may want to look at your cps again... does the tach. bounce when cranking? you have checked fuel pressure?

check #22 fuse under the hood,it plugs in to the d/s of the fuel filter resavor/canister its a red wire with a green stripe, it runs the fewl heater, dont need it above 39 degrees but you will need to install a new fuel heater its a round disc under the fuel filter /remove filter and center plastic guide ,use a 13/16 crows foot wrench and REMBER ITS REVERSE THREADS ,,,LEFT HANDED THREAD EMAIL ME AT BUCKEYE286 AT YAHOO.COM , I CAN FILL YA IN ON A LOT ABOUT THE 7.3 T/D

The fuel bowl heater is really a fuel filter warmer. It's purpose is to warm the filter to help fuel flow through the filter better.

Fuse 22 was never blown. The CPS that we got was grey, but i haven't gotten a different one to test that theory.
