1951 F1 Cowl Vent Seal

Hello all,

I was going to change the rubber cowl vent seal and im not sure where to start. I started removing the old one but it is coming out in 100 pieces since it is so dryrotted. It looks like there is a metal retainer held down by some phillips screws. To remove all of these it seems as if the vent lid needs to be removed.

Am I on the rigth track?

Yes, remove the lid and loosen up the vent assy. It is a real pain to get the old rubber out.
New gasket gets sandwiched between the vent and cowl.

Here's a tip for you, and one I've forgotten several times when removing vent lids; You don't have to take the screws all the way out. You only need to loosen them a bit, as the holes in the vent assembly are slotted, and just move the lid so the screw heads line up with the big part of the hole and lift it off.
