Turn rotors or replace

have a 2008 Lariat 4 x 4 with just 30,000 miles. Front brakes have started to pulse when braking. Now the day I brought this truck home I pulled off the stock front pads and put a set of Akebono pads as I know the stock pads blow all kind of dust. (might I say, I have never seen a bit of dust on my wheels from Ake pads.) So I'm going to get a new set of Akebono pads and pull off the rotors. I'm wondering if the Ford rotors are good for a turning or are they cheap and too thin to get a good turning and be better off buying a good set of new rotors. Dont want to blow money but want this done right the first time. If new rotors are needed, who makes a good thick rotor capable of a couple of turning. Thanks

Replace the rotors. Turning removes mass, and mass is what helps get rid of the heat.

Honestly, even thought they're chinese made, AutoExtra rotors have been working very well for me. The price (about $55 per rotor) makes then disposable. I figure that if I can have them turned once, then I'm good. If not I'll toss 'em for a new set. MotorCraft rotors were $180 in comparison. This was all on recommendation from my mechanic...who puts AE rotors on his lifted diesel superduty.

I cannot see the pictures, likely emoticons, that you posted, so I'm going to assume your being snide and sarcastic. Less material = less mass = which is less material to absorb the heat, also less material to dissipate said heat. Rotors that have been turned are likely to warp quicker after being turned for this reason.

MODERATORS NOTE:

No, not snide or sarcastic. SPAMMER!

Those weren't improperly formatted emoticons, Chandler, it was coding embedded in the post. It's the most recent tactic the spammers are using. That post was deleted and I edited out the offending coding in the quoted piece above.

My local 4wheel shop did the work and the order. I think SummitRacing and some others have them though. Google it.

I'd replace the rotors, the roters on these trucks seem to warp easily.

Eh, if it's the first time you've encountered that coding, it's easy to mistake it for a broken link to a .jpg file.

PowerStops are a good deal. Summit has 'em. Rock Auto has some drilled/slotted items as well.
