Question Clutch options, upgrades, and the like

I need a new clutch, mines slipping when I get over 5 lbs of boost. I'd like to keep my DMF but I've got to check it out first, there's a diesel shop 5 minutes away that can resurface it. Any tips on flywheel inspection would be nice. If it turns out its no good, does anyone know if its possible to "bolt it together". I saw a thread somewhere that mentioned converting it to single mass by joining the halves together. Secondly, are there any brands or stores to avoid or are better that others? And can I get a 12" upgraded clutch or is a new flywheel required to run the larger unit? 11" is stock right? I see the 12" listed as the upgrade. Any help is appreciated, thanks guys!

Are you sure its the clutch thats slipping? Does it slip any other time?

Reason being, there is a torque limiting slip clutch built into the DMF. Once it slips once or twice, its pretty well shot and will slip all the time. I had that happen to mine and almost couldn't make it up a steep hill. Had to baby it real slow. Had no issues at higher speeds or flat ground where I didn't need as much torque. This was before I had the turbo.

Found this on ebay, what concerns me is no springs in the hub. Would this be harder on the tranny? Also, how do they rate it at over 350hp with organic facings? (I know nothing of engineering clutches and friction products)

No springs in the hub is proper for a DMF, as they are built in the flywheel itself. For a smf conversion, you need a sprung hub.

Valair's website says their kits are meant for SMF only and this deal on ebay includes the SMF.

That is going to be a very harsh engaging clutch, definitely something I would not want in a driver/tow rig. It would be very hard to manipulate, and equally hard on parts.

Could be just the picture. I'll shoot em an email and ask. It seems like a good deal otherwise. I'd like something stronger than stock unless the stock clutch has been known to hold up to more power and heavy loads

Well, Valair never got back to me but the website says its an oem style solid hub. I wanted a better quality clutch (not chinese), the cheapest LuK kit I found was $518 but it was another $70 for shipping. So I ordered a South Bend kit for $580 shipped. That kit also has the kevlar pilot bearing.

The guys up in the OBS Stroke forum swear by Valair. They order them direct from the factory. They saw to talk to Dan, and he will help decide on which clutch you need.

Im not warry of valairs quality, just the fact that theres no springs in the clutch at all like 82swb mentioned. Definitely sounds like it would be a rough engagement.
