97 F150 4.2L V6 oil pump replacement

Oil pump is leaking on my little V6. From what I've seen this is pretty simple to replace as there are 4 bolts holding it on and it's an external oil pump.

Has anyone replaced this before? Reviewing my Haynes book I need to drop the oil pan but I'm unsure if that's a necessary step in this process.

Anyone had to do this before? Any gotchas, etc?

Got the new oil pump on order and plan on knocking this out this weekend.

Thanks!

So what did you find out concerning that oil pump change? My husband needs to do this and we are just wondering what the process is...
