bent push rod . . . broken rocker arm

I have an early 99 powerstroke with a problem. I came up with a bent push rod and a broken rocker arm. It turned over like it was hydro locked before this happened so I was thinking maybe bad injector.....replaced that, rod, and rocker....ran fine for about 30 seconds then bent the same rod again. Any thoughts on what i may be looking at? Head removal? Any help or direction would be great! Thank you in advance!

Im rebuilding a engine now that bent two pushrods on the intake on #1 and cracked the rocker pedestal. turned out to be the valve guides were shot. Not saying thats your issue but something to consider.

if you guys need a pushrod or 2 or 10 just let me know....i replaced all mine with chromoly rods last year and they are just sitting out there waiting for an engine that needs them.....they came out of my 78k mile engine so they dont have a lot of wear on them....my rig is mostly a highway vehicle also....send me your address if you want some of them.....

Does the truck run or sound different if you have a bent rod?

I have a spare set as well Bill. I ordered OEM and then decided to go with Smith Bro. Thicker wall and .030 longer for the cam

But if you've got a stiff rod, what's going to "take the heat" next time? I'd rather something like a push rod be the weak link because they're cheap and easy to fix and don't "normally" cause damage when they go. I broke a pushrod myself on #4 exhaust.

Im no expert, but if it happened once. Then you replaced the broken parts and it ran fine for 30 second and happened again w/o any other failures. I wonder if your injector is stuck open and is basically slightly hydo locking that cylinder.

that seems to make the most sense to me. For it to run for 30 second which is a significant amount of time and then do it again it sounds like its filling with fuel. Do you have fuel in your oil? was it smoking for the 30 seconds it was running?

once again i'm not an expert, im just guessing.

I had put a new injector in also.....not a reman either. After I put it together and it bent again I came back and read some more. Some indicate to position the timing mark on the crank at 11:00......the second time around I did that and seems to be running fine now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it was either that or possably didn't have the rod positioned in the lifter just right.
