66 Factory Radio Repair, & Mp3 Input addition

You've got an older radio there- Those are vacuum tubes!
I'm not sure when Ford stopped making them that way, I'd guess early 60's...
You can PROBABLY still do the conversion to that radio. If you can manage to find a wiring schematic for it, life will be much easier.... What you need to locate is the wire that brings the signal from the radio tuner to the VOLUME portion of the control ****, and that's where you'll 'tap' in to it.
Before you mod it, though, you might want to make sure that it's not valuable to someone as is... I realize that it's not going to make you rich, but there just might be someone out there looking for an old tube radio to finish off that perfect period restoration!

The tube radio was just sitting on a shelf. Install date was 1963. The one in my truck had an install date of 1966 and I just finished changing out the capacitors for new ones. Hooked it up to a 8 ohm speaker, courtesy 66CustomCab, and turned it on. Nice clear and loud sound on the local news radio. Do have the stereo jack also attached. Now if I could only get the station dial indicator to work correctly. Spacers on just like they came off and the gear does move with the shaft until the face plate goes on. Just enough drag in the big plastic gear to make the small brass gear stall in moving with the shaft/dial.

1961/63's have tubes, 1964 and later have transistors, but...
For many years, just before new vehicle introduction time, FoMoCo automatically sent the dealers a gazillion different accessories, whether they ordered them or not.
Most did not order them and did not want them. Since accessories could not be returned to FoMoCo for credit, the dealers were STUCK with them.
So it might be possible to find a 1977 Bronco with a tube radio, cuz a dealer was finally able to get rid of it!

The capacitor replacement is probably similar, though they might be in different locations and have different values. The only way to know for sure is to pop it open!
