Oil pan bolts torque question

I'm ready to put my oil pan back onto my engine after having installed Clay's Welded Piston Oil Jets at Riffraff.

Before I put the Motorcraft RTV on the pan and torque down the oil pan bolts to 18 lb-ft, I wanted to clarify something. When I went through this process before as I torqued down the bolts, I would reach the 18 lb-ft and as I went back around to verify they were all at 18 lb-ft, I realized the "squish" factor of the RTV was causing the torque to not stay true after having hit that value on one bolt and moving on around the pan. I could have just kept going and going until the RTV was squeezed out from between the two surfaces to obtain 18 lb-ft for every bolt in the end.

My first thought is to just torque them all down in their sequence one time and leave it at that. Is there some other way to go about this?

Thanks for any input or experience you all are able to share on this.
