I need to get this truck i sulated and ready for the freezing cold up there, is there any way to insulate the doors? I know when i put the carpet kit in i am going to ad the insulation pad that you can buy, but i going to need more, marby head line and insulation, door anything to stay a little warmer, any ideas?

Until someone from up north chimes in, Carhartt insulated overalls, till the thermostate opens is my route.

Of course new door seals and make sure all your vents/duct work are in good order.

Good plan on the pad under the carpet, but make sure you do not try to run it all the way to the edge, your step pieces might not hold to a real thick a set up?

I guess dyna-mat helps with sound, but do not know its temp insulating capabilities?

Maybe them Alaska folks will have some advice?

Make sure your anti rattle around the window is good. Also, make sure you've got some gasket material in between the fresh air vent and the HVAC box and the kickpanel. Get some bedding and glazing for the trans hump.

This is going to make the truck louder, but make sure there is no insulation in the trans hump/by the exhaust that runs under the cab. When I stay by my grandparents up in northern wisconsin I do this and I can run no heat once I get the initial chill out of the truck because the heat from the trans/xfer case and exhaust keeps the inside pretty toasty. This works as long as its above -5* below, not sure what its like where you're going.

It wasnt that bad when i went to ND but I have used great stuff spray foam on the doors behind the door panels and that worked awesome. Use the minimal or medium expansion "greatstuff" It is cheap and works good I bet it would work in the headliner too. I always thought if i insulated the cab behind the seat It would help too, but try the great stuff available at walmart, homedepot, or any hardware store, in the doors i bet you will be impressed.

  1. Dynamat, Dynaliner, and Dynapad, then carpet.
  2. Replace all window seals and weatherstripping.
  3. Use 3M Strip Caulk on any firewall penetrations.
  4. Make sure any vent door foams are in good condition and not crumbly.
  5. Rebuild your heater case and replace the heater core?
  6. Line every square inch of the roof with insulating mat... it looks like shredded blue jeans with an aluminum backing on one site. About $25 a roll at the swap meet.
You'll be battling heat (or cold) conduction, convection, radiation and air leakage - think of it in terms of insulating your house.
