1993 ford lightning

I have a 93 ford lightning that i would like to put a 393 into it. I was wondering if my heads and intake would be enough for it or would i have to get different ones. Also if i can use my GTP 40 heads what kind of pistons would you recommend for the best compretion ratios as far as flat tops, domed, etc. any advice is greatly appriciated.

What kind of power are you looking to make, how much are you looking to spend and what type of driving do you do with this truck?

I was looking to push around 400 horsepower. Money isnt to big of a deal because this will be a project that will take me awhile to do. Right now the truck is my daily driver until i get another truck.

What kind of tuning options are available to you; speed density is going to be a limiting factor and only a small handful of tuners can tune those systems.

are you talking like a dyno shop or tuners that you do yourself? I dont really know much about all that.

The reason I ask is because you're going to be limited as to what you can do with speed density. A shop tuner that knows speed density well, can tune one with more cubes but your cam choices are going to be limited. Your other options would be a mass air swap or aftermarket engine management like BigStuff or FAST and you can choose just about any cam you like. I tend to lean towards a custom grind cam and if your block has an F4TE casting number then you can do a roller cam swap. GT-40 heads on a stroked 5.8 will be a restriction so a set of Edlebrock, AFR or Trick Flow would be a better option.

Other things to consider will be the drivetrane. The factory locker wont last long with the added torque. They can be rebuilt with better parts or you can change it out with another type of locker, like an Eaton. Wheel hop is another issue with these trucks so installing a set of traction bars will save you from snapping an axle when you get a little happy with the throttle. Another good upgrade would be a valve body upgrade to firm up the shifts. Hope this helps.

That was supposed to be shift kit. Apparently my phone has a mind of its own. Hahaha
