Got my oil sample report YIKES!

Blackstone scared the sludge outta me! High metals in engine and trans. As soon as I can figure out how to post the report with out my info on it I will and you guys can make me feel better.

I just bought the truck and PO said it has Amsoil in it but it looked black as black can be (96 460 gasser) so I drained it and took the sample just to see.

The trans he claimed was just serviced but sample revealed high metals and possibly original fill so I will flush and put some miles on it and re sample.

Motor has 140k and runs/ passed smog perfectly.

Any tips on how to post the PDF report?

Can't seem to post the PDF so here are the #'s

1996 460
Aluminum 15 avg-4
Chromium 7 avg-1
Iron 233 avg-26
lead 54 avg-8
nickel 7 avg-1
silicon 29 avg-10
calcium 2420 avg-1924
zinc 1165 avg-947

These are the higher than average #'s all others are close.

E4OD #'s
Aluminum 34 avg-7
Iron 295 avg-61
Copper 328 avg-68
Lead 160 avg-28
Nickel 7 avg-2

Can anyone make sense of these numbers? Other than it's worn out. I think these samples are from very old oil and I will flush and run for a while then resample. Any input is appreciated

With those numbers, I'll bet that this is old, old oil that was never changed. The higher calcium and zinc numbers are probably from some oil additive.

I had a '95 460 and never saw iron, copper, aluminum or lead levels like you posted. With an oil and filter change I'll bet that your next oil sample will fall into the normal range.

Or he could have used a CI-4 oil or something like that.

Regardless change both fluids and send a sample in at your "normal" OCI to see how things are doing.

The PO probably bought into the Scamsoil claim that you can go up to 25,000 miles per oil change and didnt read the fine print (one year max, using periodic oil analysis to verify).

Of the numbers listed, only the engine iron is of concern, not so much the transmission if that was original fill. Calcium and zinc are only additives, not wear metals. Scamsoil does have higher than normal additives in order to (sanely) extend drain intervals. Was a TBN test done? If you cant figure out how to post the pdf, please list viscosity and flash point as text so we can look at those.

While I didnt do a UOA, the VW I bought recently had oil that came out thick and black. One flush with Chevron Delo 400, which turned black immediately, and its nice and clean inside when I pulled the rocker covers to do a valve adjustment.

The silicone is usually from a air filter leak, but can be from a poor filtering performance filter as well. Iron is general engine wear, and lead is bearing wear. Hopefully your wear numbers return to normal after flushing out the crud.

Some people tend to neglect their vehicles maintenance prior to selling whether 1 month or 1 year from the time of sale.

I would change ALL fluids run for a day, week, month what ever and do another complete fluid change...start fresh and then in 3-5k miles have the fluids tested.

Good luck..I'm sure you will have better test results next time.

Old Amsoil in the pan and I would guess a K&N air filter letting the silicates through. I would do a couple of short OCI's and put a good clean new paper air filter in and do another UOA at the next oil change. I use Mobil-1 as a sleep aid and change it every 5k. The latest dino oils are fine for our pickup trucks.
If you have the transmission flushed, make sure they don't back flush it. I prefer a simple pan drop fluid and filter change but that's just me.
