alternator amperage on 2011 6.2

im in the process of putting together some fog lamps, driving lights, back up lights, air bag compressor etc etc. i cannot figure out the amount of amperage the alternator size we have in our trucks. i want to say i remember the dealer saying it had a heavy duty alternator in it but again im not sure.
any ideas or is there a place to find out?

thanks as always for the help.

The alternator should have a label on it that might show amps on it, or at least model number that will find you the specs.
SD usually have 110-120 amp alternators.
Plenty for coffee makers and microwave ovens.

I just looked through my order guide for 2011. It shows the standard alt. at 155 amps. it also shows order code 67A as dual alt requires 6.7L total 357 amps, order code 67D heavy duty 200 amp requires 6.7L. It looks like all the 6.2L come with 155 amp alternator.

+1 to Harley's comment. I have the "heavy duty" alternator and it's defined as:

Alternator – 155-Amps, Heavy-Duty

so how much amperage would a truck use normally? sorry for all the questions. electrical stuff freaks me out and you might as well ask me to do brain surgery.

That's a black hole type question.

Take a look at your fuse panel in the Owner's Manual...and you will see all the circuits with amps needed. So...that will give you an idea of when you turn on a circuit...how many amps you are using.

PLUS...the items you want to install...should give amp readings. Add those up too.

Hope this kinda helps...but really unless you connect to a diagnostic computer...you'd never know.

Unless new technology put something new on the truck -the truck to run doesn't take much. Computers take just traces of electricity. Electric fuel pump might take 5-10 amp. Dash blower 5-25 amp. The biggest draw in normal use are glow plugs, but those don't stay for long, than headlights what with other lights take about 20 amp.
Older trucks had 45 amp alternators and did just fine power-wise.

thank you all for the help. it gives me piece of mind knowing i can add stuff and not worry about it. i added up the stuff i want to put on and if everything (add-ons) were running at the same time (unlikely) it would only be around 30 amps.

thanks again. i love this site.
