Blown speakers

Anyone else having issues with the stock speakers? Took my truck in the morning after I bought it for the passenger side rear speaker cracking. Yesterday I noticed the passengerside front speaker is cracking. I don't turn my stereo up loud and I can't believe they are this bad????

Factory speakers are crap. Several people have had the same issue, I replaced mine with 4 of these Rockford Fosgate Prime R1682 6"x8" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com
For ~ $140 I got great speakers that sound awesome and will last. It says they are not for the rear but I talked to a tech there and all I had to do was shim them out away from the inner panel. I just cut the screen out of the old speaker and shimmed them out about 1/8" or so. Careful with the bolt behind the rear ( if SCrew) door handle, both sides had the clip you thread that bolt back into fell into the bottom of the door. They are still there... The door closes fine w/o them in there and appears there are no issues w/o them.

Also be careful with the adapter wires, I bent a prong over rendering it useless in the connector so I had to order another set. They are small and fragile so use caution when connecting them.

No problem. They got good reviews on Crutchfield so I went with them. 5 out of 5 stars IIRC?

I have an issue with the front drivers side speaker. It doesn't always work, so I have to goose the volume dial to get it going. I should think about swapping mine someday, too.

Its weird that as many great things as there are about these new trucks something as small as the speakers would come up as a quality issue. I haven't personally had any issues in my FX4 yet but I've been considering a speaker swap to just avoid future headache's.

I had the same problem with my truck, here is my old thread about it here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-new-11-a.html

The first time it happened it was a rear speaker, instead of taking it in under warranty I bought an OEM replacement over the counter for roughly $20. Thats how cheap the OEM speakers are. The second time I said forget it and bought four aftermarket Alpine speakers and couldn't be happier.

I haven't removed the door panels in the F150 before.... Or a Scab for that matter. The super duty was easy. Any tips for the scab F150?

Crutchfield has directions with pictures included. It was pretty easy except getting the small plastic piece from behind the inner handle. I used an old drum brake adjuster with the funky curved tip to get in behind it and pop it out

Ordered the Rockford Fosgates today. Thanks D8. Should be nice when I am done. I already have RF amp and subs. Like I said I don't crank it up loud but it'll be great to have good sounding system. Stockers are junk. (weird cause my SD I kept the stock speakers in it for ten years, and the amp and subs came from that truck)

Btw.... Are you guys running an amp with the new speakers or just from the stock head unit? I only have the amp powering the subs and I feel that should be plenty. Just curious what you guys are doing

I'm running stock radio, no amp with my Alpines. To be honest you can turn them up as high as the oem radio can go and there is no distortion. I know people say tuners and exhaust systems are some of the best mods for these trucks. IMO the best thing I did for my truck was replace the terrible oem speakers. Good luck
