Paul, I've been searching for 1.7 rockers similar to the 1.6 ones that are on my GT40 heads. The only ones I have been able to find are the "adjustable" type. Did ford make a 1,7 non adjustable one like the stock pedestal mount which bolts to the head? thanks

I think I found the cobra type 1.7 that came on the 93-95 GT40 heads and these are quite different looking and designed differently from the factory 1.6 rocker on my GT40 head. From what I can tell the cobra 1.7 had roller tips on the rcokers and are made similar in design as todays Comp or Crane roller rockers with exception to the rocker body design and being non adjustable. If this is the case would I be wise to buy the updated adjustable 1.7 rockers since if I did encounter any short comings where if the geomentry was off etc. these could be "adjusted" to correct it in lieu of having to maybe buying longer or shorter pushrods, shims etc. using the cobra style.
Thanks

Unless the heads or block have been decked it's not likely you will need anything other than the stock pushrods. Here are a couple examples of 1.7 rockers for these engines..
Crane Cams 44746-16 - Crane Energizer Pedestal Mount Roller Rocker Arms - Overview - SummitRacing.com
Ford Racing M-6564-A50 - Ford Racing Pedestal Mount Roller Rocker Arms - Overview - SummitRacing.com

You can pay a bit less than this but you will be getting lower quality. I'm willing to bet adjustable rockers will be more and it's nice to have adjustability but then it's something else that can work lose and cause problems.

Well upon further checking out the ford racing non adjustable rockers
M6529A302 these will not clear the stock valve covers, only the raised 5.0L HO aluminum valve covers. Looks like this is due to the thicker alum. body and the elevation point of the 1.7 roller rockers?

I have not found if the Crane ones state the same. I suppose the original Cobra VC's were taller to accept the rockers? Although from what I seen the original cobra 1.7 roller rockers for the 93-95 looks less beefer than the ford racing ones with the model afforementioned.

The stock steel stamped valve cover's I have off the 98 explorer and the 93 F150 appear to be the same height. Dont know how high or top area of the HO VC is compared to these.

Anyone running either of these steel VC with the Crane or Ford racing pedestal non adjustable roller 1.7 rockers. I sure dont want to order them if they wont fit under my vavle covers.

If I decided to use the stud mount adjustable ones they may present tye same problem.

Crane comment basicly the same

Thanks

The truck stamped steel valve cover is actually taller than the 5.0 HO cast aluminum cover that is said to work with these rockers, so you won't have much if any clearance problems.

As do I. I've got 1.7 Cobra's under the stock 95 valve covers on my roller 351. The Explorer valve covers are supposedly the same covers the Cobra's used and they're pretty short. It's not the overall height of the covers that's an issue, it's the oil filler baffle inside.

Well that solves that issue. I always get a "fair unbias FTE news report here".

Thanks

BTW I sold the 98 Explorer GT40P heads for $300 (that were never ran, virgin heads) to a young guy who said he wants to get them polish/ported for his 66 tang. He bought the tang recently which was restored right and assumed the 302 that was in it was an older vintage 302 engine. After asking him many questions I found out it was a later roller block with the spider in it. He was thrilled to say the least since he thought he would have to buy the design roller block.
Shortly I will be putting the Explorer 5.0 EFI intakes and other parts that I will not be using. As most of you know I bought the Explorer 5.0 crate motor (never installed) cheap and now seeing the pay back in parts I'm selling

Engine is running. What is the intial base timing for the explorer cam with my 93 distributor. Will the total advance be controlled/set by the computer? Thanks

Should be 10* stock, if the cam is straight up. Be sure to remove the spout when setting base timing. Computer takes over from there.

Ok with the f150 egine wiring harness using the explorer cam I changed the spark plug/distributor firing order to the 1,3,7 etc.. My question is does the fuel injector wiring harness connectors need to be relocated to match the the specific injector for each cyl. as the spark plug firing order? They fire in batches with the SD system and wondering if the rough idling and sputting when is related to the injectors firing in the batch manner.New spark plugs and wires. Engine under a load running bad also.
Please note the tdc, cam alignment set right on and intial timing running at 10* btc. and all sensors checked fine.
thanks

No don't touch the injector wiring. Are you positive you wired the plugs correctly, distributor turns counter clockwise and cylinder number sequence is as shown below..
