first saying sorry

idi diesel john... you are saying the zf6 will bolt directly to my 6.9 idi? and if so i think i am gonna convert the 86 to 6 speed and i think that will be a heck of a lot better than the t19 (mpg wise)....

You'll need a ZF6 off a 7.3 PSD (98-03). They all have the same bell housing bolt patern, so yes will bolt right up.

Gear it high, use the transfer case for low geared needs, and any trans you choose, I like the 6 speed idea, I have never seen an F600 that nice, that is one fine specimen, make sure you let us know wher youland, I road trip a lot . I am going to do a 57 dodge300 just a bare cab and chassis now, but rust free, it will be my last major project.

If you use the ZF6, you will have to come up with a provision for the speedometer. After 92 the speedo was electronic, reading off the rear axle. If going 4X4 you will need the transfer case for the ZF6 as the output shaft is larger, and the cases for the T19s and ZF5 will not mate up.

Hijacking here, sorry. But that means no NP205 with a ZF-6... that kinda sucks.. wonder if there is a way around that somehow.

Married, came off a T-19(?) anyway, bolts right onto the ZF 5 no problem after making some room for the shift rail. Wonder if you can adapt a NP205 to accomodate the ZF6 output shaft, would dearly like to do that, as much as i dislike 6 speeds... the gear spacing in the 5 ahh.. leaves something to be desired lol.

Not to bring this topic back up 2 months later, but I figured if anyone would know it would be here...

I might have found a good deal on a Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear, geared around 3.54. The problem is they are out of a Dodge and they have a passenger side drop. Are there transfer case options about doing this?

For use with a ZF 6? There is always divorced so yes that way, but i dont know if the dodge t-case would bolt up, wouldnt surprise me if it did. Heard tell somewhere that dodge used the 1356 t-case as well but hung the other way.

Thanks, I'll have to see what I can come up with, it looks like I'm getting a screaming deal on a set of axles, but they are out of a Dodge and I was unsure about how difficult it would be with the pumpkin on the other side. If there was an option that just bolted on that would be awesome.

I'm not sure on what transmission I want to go with yet, when I built my Mustang it had to be a manual, but I drive a car a whole lot different than a truck and I've seen some good arguments for going with an auto in a 4x4 truck.

So very much to figure out when you do something uncharted! lol

Could always go with the E40D and hold out for a Ford D60, then you could use the origional 1356, then sell the Dodge D60 to recoup some coin, i know the dodge and chevy guys look for em.

Alright, after a night of research it seems there are two ways.

One is the easy way, and that's a divorced case with the drop on the side I need. The other is to use a later model Dodge np205, the ones with the 6 bolt pattern, and the larger bearings (though the ones with the smaller ones can be milled to work) and then swap the input gear to a Ford one.

So, it's do-able. The divorced case might give some helpful options, I guess we'll see. After four hours of research it's not time to make a decision, especially since I don't even have the axles just yet, lol.

Mileage Question

My 7.3 in an F250 w/E4od automatic gets me 13-15 in town, 20-22 on the highway (unloaded).

That's what I would like to see from my truck. I thought about a 460 for a long time, but the best I heard of one getting was 15, and I think the reality of it would have been more like 9 in town and 11 on the highway, lol.

Is your 7.3 N/A or Turbo'd? From what I've come across a turbo will grant better mpg.
