How hard is it to replace a clutch?

I think the time is near for a new clutch in my 98 Ranger, 2wd/ 5 spd. How tough of a job is this? I've changed the one in my 66 Mustang years ago but things were less complicated then. What kind of time and expense am I looking at? Thanks for the feedback.

The basic proceedure isn't that much different, aside from the bellhousing being integral to the trans. The throwout bearing sits on the internal slave cyl, which is a reccomended item to replace while you have the trans down.
The 2 biggest "tricks" is getting the shifter handle off, and seperating the hydrualic line for the slave cyl.

reall its not bad IF you have all the tools and stuff. You didnt specify 4 cyl or v6 so there is a difference. On the v6 you will need to have a 24inch extension to get at the upper bell housing bolts, and also a long one for the exhaust header bolts. If you have 4 jack stands its easy, I have some 16-18 long studs I use to slide the trans on for removal install, makes it easier by yourself.

I would also recommend that you R&R the master cyl while doing the job as either it will fail later or cause the slave to go out again sooner.
