1948 Ford F1 Truck Horn
All,
No horn, button or wiring on the truck. I want to install the reproduction steering wheel and horn button. Not sure where the wiring should be installed. I thought it should run down the center of the steering wheel to the steering box but can't see anyway this is possible. Can anyone help? I did check the archives first but didn't see anything.

The wire runs from the steering wheel button, down thru the steering column and steering box, and comes out the little hole in the bottom of the steering box, from there its a simple circuit. The hole in the bottom of the steering box is probably full of dirt, but its there. You should be abel to feed a stiff wire from bottom to top, or visa versa. All the parts or replacements are in most of the catalogs. I hope this helps.

Hey Bigblue,
Welcome aboard! It's nice to see another Ford Enthusiast
from Texas! Good luck with your horn. I'm waiting till my son has summer break to take our steering apart to see what's up with
our horn. It was working fine - now not so much - I think it's a ground problem. Hang in there.

Welcome to FTE!
Jimmy's got you covered with the diagram. I found it easiest to run the stiff wire up from the bottom to attach the horn wire, then back down through the steering column. My problem was the tip of the original horn wire was stuck in the hole in the bottom of the box. I used my shop vac to suck it out through the top first. Then everything was easy.

Horn wire
The original horn for the 49 is mounted on the left side of the rad and is mounted in a vertical position, and is roughly 16 inches in length.
As for the horn wire install, I've done plenty of them and never had an issue. I feed the wire into the steering column then twist it in a clockwise manner and it seems to find it way to the bottom of the steering box, never had an issue yet with this instalation. Now if you have a broke off wire in there then thats another matter.
