78 Truck Manual

I already have a Chilton manual for my 78. I was looking for a better manual, and was wondering what one you guys would recommend. Do some come with other features then just the original manual. Thanks

You can buy the 5 volume shop manual set online at LMC (CD/DVD) is the better option. Stay away from the Haynes manual you can purchase at most parts stores, they suck. I have yet to find one with extensive wiring diagrams.

Yeah, but they're handy for quick reference. Do you know if you can copy the dvd to your computer in maybe pdf format? You're right about the wiring diagrams being less then perfect lol. I'm having trouble with my brake lights and the chilton manual's a joke. This kind of seems like it's worth the investment. I'm short on coin right now so I'm checking to see what's out there.

Brake lights

Have you checked the stop lamp switch that is on the brake pedal? It may be a ground issue, have you cleaned/sanded the ground point on both sides and reattached the wires? Can you give me some more details, I have the shop manual set and may be able to troubleshoot it for you

I haven't really looked into it that much. Only the right brake light doesn't work. But both turn signals do. So I'm thinking it's a dash hunt(I love those) Also, the dash lights stop working yesterday, and I was driving it and it died, then I wiggled the back of the key switch, and off she goes. LOL I bought this truck a month ago, and I'm already having fun. I've owned a 78 before, I knew what I was getting myself into haha.

I forgot that, yes the parking lights work. I went out for a second and started looking around, but it's to cold today lol. I'll be out there wendsday, and really give it a once over. I'm going to start by checking grounds. Then start trouble shooting from the directional switch untill I find it. The brake light and turn signal run the same wire from the directional switch to the tail light. So I suppose that's where the fun begins.
